Stuck at home and unable to see your friends it’s time to set up a Netflix party. It’s the perfect way to spend a night in with friends without having to physically be together. I picked a few movies that are going to be entertaining and great to watch with a group of people. With Netflix’s wide array of movies, there is totally a movie you can find for you and your friends to enjoy.
New to Netflix is this Netflix original movie called Enola Holmes. This movie follows the adventure of young girl Enola, played by Millie Bobbie Brown, who is trying to solve the mystery of her mother’s disappearance. Coincidentally she is the younger sister of the famous Sherlock Holmes who is also on the hunt to find his sister and mother. Enola is spunky and quick thinking which leads her to London into the real world for the first time in her life. Her mom raised her to be clever and know how to protect herself. You’ll follow her on her journey to London while also hunting for clues to find her mother who went missing. This is fun to watch with your friends as you root for Enola while also following the clues together.
Another Netflix original classic is Bird Box which I’m sure many people have watched already. It’s a post-apocalyptic horror thriller movie that will constantly keep you and your friends on edge. It follows mainly the character Mallorie, played by Sandra Bullock, and how she is surviving this post-apocalyptic world while also being pregnant. She and other characters have to be able to navigate the scary world their in while never looking outside or else it will lead them to end their own lives and killing others. It’s exciting till the very end and perfect for a thrill-seeking friend group.
Who doesn’t love good superhero movies among friends? Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse is a lighthearted movie on Netflix that is great for a chill movie night. You watch as the main character, Miles Morales, tries to figure out highschool while also gaining the abilities of local hero Spider-Man. He struggles with his powers and not only fitting into school but also fitting in with the other “spider-people”. Sometimes funny and at times emotional, Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse is going to be a fun watch among friends.
Who says you can only watch Halloween movies in October? There is always time to watch the Addams Family antics. This is a movie I’ve watched repeatedly since it’s been put on Netflix because it is just a classic. Watching the Addams family as they adjust to finding Fester and how they live their lives in the cooky and spooky way that they do. You can’t help but laugh the whole way through as you wish you could be an Addams too.
I’m adding a throwback to this list because who didn’t love this movie as a kid? Am I the only one that made a dream journal after watching this as a kid? Just me? This movie is just one big nostalgia trip from watching Taylor Lautner play his iconic role of Sharkboy or George Lopez as Mr. Electric. It’s going to take you back to a simpler time of staying up to watch TV with your family and a reminder of what it was like to be a child with such big dreams. If you’re looking for a movie to take you back to your childhood you’ll love Sharkboy and Lavagirl.
This movie is if you’re looking for a good laugh. Bad Teacher follows Elizabeth, played by Cameron Diaz, who is ready to live a life of luxury and marry her sugar daddy till she is dumped. Now taking a job as a substitute teacher she is chasing Scott, played by Justin Timberlake, a fellow teacher who is rich and young. She does have some competition with another teacher named Amy, played by Lucy Punch, so it won’t be easy to win Scott’s heart. Watch to see if she gets the guy or maybe follows another path.
A classic to watch with friends is obviously Back to the Future. This 1980s classic follows Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, who is taken back to the 50s by his friend Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd. In the past Marty run into the younger versions of his parents and has to make sure they fall in love or else he will cease to exist!
This is a Netflix original that is just really lovely to watch. This is a coming of age story about Willowdean “Dumplin” Dickson, played by Danielle Macdonald, about learning to love yourself and forgiveness. Dumplin is grieving the loss of her aunt who she believes is the only person that could make her feel confident. She enters her mother’s beauty pageant to prove a point that you don’t have to be the ideal standard of beauty to be considered beautiful. Her mother Rosie Dickson, played by Jennifer Aniston, and Dumplin butt heads a few times but ultimately shows that there’s nothing stronger than a bond between mother and daughter. It’s a feel-good movie to watch with your friends.
Sometimes we are all looking for a good cry. A Walk To Remember is just the movie to pull at your heartstrings and get you crying over FaceTime. This early 2000s movie follows the story of Landon Carter, played by Shane West, and Jamie Sullivan, played by Mandy Moore. It’s a story of adolescence, hard choices, love, and loss. Landon struggles with making the right choices when it comes to life and his future whereas Jamie seems to have everything figured out with no time to accomplish her goals. After spending time together Landon and Jamie fall in love. Circumstances make their time together difficult but they show that love is capable in the most difficult of situations. Get ready to cry with your friends as you fall in love with Landon and Jamie.
