Best Movies For Movie Night

Movie night is a great way to spend time with friends! One of the best ways to spend an evening is by cuddling up on the couch with some popcorn and a good movie. Whether you are into rom-coms, horror, comedy or something else, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of my personal favorites throughout the years.

Forrest Gump:

An American classic, this movie has got everything from a struggling love story to war to friendship to just about everything else. Grab your best friend and a box of chocolates to enjoy this wonderful movie.

We Bought A Zoo:

This movie depicts the wild adventure of a family who moves to a zoo after the heartbreaking loss of their mother/wife. The main character played by Matt Damon is a loving father determined to bring happiness back to his family after wife’s death due to cancer. This movie will tear at your heart’s strings with a story of love, determination, humor, and lots and lots of animals. Fall in love with the Mee family and their home, the Rosemoore Wildlife Park.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty:

Do you ever catch yourself daydreaming of a better, more adventurous life? Then this movie should be your next pick. Walter Mitty, played by Ben Stiller, is a negative assets manager at Life Magazine who constantly finds himself daydreaming of a more exciting life doing things such as catching bad guys, saving dogs from burning buildings, and winning the heart of his fellow co-worker who he’s secretly in love with, Cheryl. When Life Magazine begins its transition from paper to digital magazines, Mitty is tasked with developing the picture for their final cover. However, when he can’t find the photo to be published he embarks upon a wild adventure to track it down from the magazine’s head photojournalist. Live out your own fantasies along Ben Stiller in this adventure, comedy-drama.

Midnight In Paris:

Have you ever felt like you were born in the wrong era? That your life would be so much better if you were born in the ’20s? ’40s? ’60s? Or even further back? This movie will bring you on the chaotic and mystical journey alongside Owen Wilson as he accidentally goes back in time to Paris in the 1920s. Wilson’s character who is engaged to Rachel McAdams’s character is a struggling writer on vacation in Paris when he all the sudden finds himself transported to the 1920s after a clock strikes midnight. The movie begs the question of: do we always just want what we can’t have? Answer that question for yourself at your next movie night!

The Help:

Back in 1960’s Mississippi, a young and aspiring writer named Skeeter, played by Emma Stone takes on the dangerous challenge of writing a book about black women who have spent their lives caring for white children. She secretly interviews various maids throughout her town in order to uncover the abuse and challenges that the women have faced throughout their lives. Not everyone is happy with the book, especially one of Skeeter’s oldest friends who is extremely racist. This movie does an impeccable job of bringing awareness to serious topics while still using humor at appropriate moments. Fall in love with (almost) every character as you are given a first-row seat at your next movie night to the lives of those in a critical time of American history.

Phantom of the Opera:

A beautiful musical depicting the story of a troubled phantom played by Gerard Butler and his brutal schemes to win the heart of vocalist Christine Daae played by Emmy Rossum. The phantom comes from a miserable life of being captured and harshly beaten. Christine who loves the phantom in her own way is also madly in love with a kinder, gentler man named Raoul. This love triangle is told throughout the movie in forms of songs and performances that will blow you away at your next movie night. The movie is decorated with beautiful songs, lavish costumes, and brilliant performances both on and off the Paris Opera’s stage.

Titanic:

Grab some candy and ten boxes of tissue for one of the greatest love story films of all time. This action-packed film follows the journey of two lovers aboard the ill-fated voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic. Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a poor yet optimistic soul who immediately falls in love with the rich and troubled Rose Bukater, played by Kate Winslet who is already engaged with somebody else. Rose and Jack eventually fall in love and decide they want to spend the rest of their lives together literally 30 seconds before the ship strikes an iceberg. The rest you’ll just have to watch and see for yourself.

See Also

The Wizard Of Oz:

This movie is sure to please every single guest at your next movie night. Join four pals as they skip along the yellow brick road in search of their deepest desires. Find your way home again with the life lessons depicted throughout the film which will surely warm your heart. Enjoy the songs, costumes, colors, and so many more various and exciting elements that his ground-breaking movie has to offer. Be sure to bring your ruby slippers for this one.

La La Land:

This movie will tug at your heart’s strings like never before. Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling, and Mia played by Emma Stone, have undeniable chemistry which leads to them falling in love over their passion for pursuing their dreams. Sebastian wants to open up his own jazz club and Mia is an aspiring actress. As their success grows so does the tension in their romantic relationship. They’re both worked so hard to achieve their dreams that they don’t want to mess it up for one another. Can they fall in love and pursue their dreams at the same time or will dreams preside over their love? Another film that’s jam-packed with great music, costumes, dancing, and Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling bickering. What can be better than that?

Gone With The Wind:

Be transported back to the violent and brutal civil war with this epic drama. Follow the heart-wrenching journey of southern belle Scarlett O’Hara played by Vivien Leigh. O’Hara is a wealthy, fierce, and determined young lady who falls in love with her cousin, Ashley. Throughout the movie, she does things to win him over only to get herself tangled up in her own affairs. Rhett Butler, played by Clark Gable, is the astonishingly handsome man who takes an interest in O’Hara and her fiery attitude. Will Scarlett be able to overcome the tragic history of the South or will she meet the same demise? Find out at your next movie night!

Movie nights are the best way to end an evening with friends and family. I hope you enjoy your next movie night with your favorite people, drinks, and lots of junk food!
