Now this is the kiss in the rain we have romanticised about long before this movie came out. The Notebook just nailed it by like a million. I think we can all agree that this three minute long kissing scene is the platinum standard when we imagine that amazing kiss in the pouring rain.
I believe we all remember the australian teen heartthrob Heath Ledger. His movie debut, 10 Things I Hate About You”, was based off of the Shakespeare play “The Taming of the Shrew.” While the plot has some big wtf moments that would not fly today, we all know we love the last kiss of the movie when Ledger kisses the girl he loves just to shut her up.
Even though the book to movie franchise turned out to be a flop, we all know that the elevator scene in the first movie made our panties drop. When the tension becomes too unbearable in the tiny moving room Christian Grey gives Ana Steele the most amazing kiss of her life. Pushing her up against the wall and planting one on her when she least expected it. I think what made the scene even more delicious was Christian’s rule, no touching.
The first time I watched this movie I thought, “The day I kiss the school’s bad boy in front of my dad is the day my life ends.” From beginning to end this movie is full of good laughs and tearful moments. There is no denying the chemistry between the princess and the criminal. While there kiss if brief it adds to the perfect ending when Judd Nelson’s character throws his fist up in the air cause he knows he got the girl.
Who doesn’t enjoy Leonardo Dicaprio on screen? In this film Romeo and Juliet gets a time period update, but keeps the wonderful writing of William Shakespeare as the dialogue. While at times the old english way of speaking is hard to understand we all know after the lovers share their first kiss they are saying “DAMN.”
It is a Cinderella story that is shaken up with a hooker and a dashing business man. After a swoon worthy, paid for courtship Roberts and Gear’s characters part ways only for our male lead to realize how much he needs his lady. He shows up with with roses and climbs up the fire escape like the prince coming to rescue her like she’s always imagined. Their only kiss of the entire movie ends the film leaving us to believe they lived happily ever after.
Heath Ledger makes our list again paired with Jake Gyllenhaal for their epic roles in Brokeback mountain. This movie hits you in the heart from start to finish in this forbidden love story. While there are many epic kisses between the two actors in the two hour movie span, I personally think the most passionate is after the two are reunited again after one of their longest times apart. While the movie was surrounded by homophobic criticisms for those of us that know love is love this film is a classic.
The first time we watch this scene we think that Princess Buttercup is confronting the Dread Pirate Roberts for killing her beloved Westley. It is only after a powerful push down a hill when he utters their special line “as you wish” does Buttercup realize that the man that has been chasing after her all this time is really her dearest Westley. After a long, funny, tumble down the hill the two are reunited at the bottom to share a tender embrace that could melt the heart of any cynic.
While this is a cartoon it is still one of the most well known kisses around the world. The Lady & The Tramp’s spaghetti kiss is one that we all awed at as children and every time we watch it as adults. There has to be hundreds of video recreations on the internet that fans have made with actual dogs and we love every single one of them.
This 1953 movie might not be known to many, but it is one of the most famous on screen kisses in the cinematic world. This watery kiss had audiences swooning and censors gasping. While the passion of this kiss might seem a bit tamed compared to today’s standards, the passion of the scene was as scandalous as it gets for the time. This World War II romance has been referenced over a hundred times in all different kinds of our other favorite movies like The Godfather and Weekend at Bernie’s. If you haven’t caught this amazing flick yet the make sure to cross it off your watch list soon.
