Best Ice Cream Places In The PNW

Everyone loves ice cream. It’s a simple, sweet delicacy that can be served any way you want. It can be served in a cone, a cup, mixed with soda or alcohol (if one wants to get creative). And, to put the cherry on top (pun very much intended), you can top it all with a variety of syrups, jimmies, fruit, or anything else that perfects the sweet treat. And, with the great Pacific Northwest being known for the creativity that’s put in its food, it’s almost like the world is ice cream’s oyster with its diversity of flavors and toppings. Below are just some of the best ice cream parlors in the great PNW.

1. Molly Moons Homemade Ice Cream

This one is at the top of the list, and I speak for almost every Seattle resident, as it is an avid hometown favorite. Complete with a variety of unique rotating wheel of seasonal flavors…They also show their appreciation for the planet, as everything that’s made to enjoy this confectionary is 100% compostable, and locally grown/made. Earl Grey, Honey Lavender, Salted Caramel, and Sweet Cream.

2. Sweet Alchemy Ice Creamery

This next place shows the more rebellious side of the Seattle food industry, all beginning with a dream to make the most amazing ice cream in the world. Organically grown, partnered with local farms who share the same love for showing that organic can be creative and delicious… Chocolate Earl Grey, Monkeyberry Bash, Smokey Chocolate, and Lemon Custard.

3. Bluebird Ice Cream

Seattle gives its own little twist on the classic soda fountain with this next joint, making it more Pacific Northwest modern. With unique flavors such as Theo Chocolate Chunk, Caffé Vita Coffee, and Elyisan Stout, they also provide an enjoyable array of homemade sodas and dessert-focused cocktails. an example includes one of their many floats mixed with a cherry-flavored porter. Just remember to consume responsibly.

4. Shugs Soda Fountain and Ice Cream

Located in the “heart of Pike Place Market”, this place is another that brings all of the nostalgia with the image of a modern soda fountain. Shug’s provides a vast variety of flavors of the sweet treat as well as many different ways of consuming it. Whether you prefer a cone, sundae, float, or served with a little bit of alcohol, they have a little bit of “something for everyone”.

5. Seattle Cookie Counter

Of course, with the quantity of food the PNW provides, it just wouldn’t be right if there wasn’t an option for everyone. Having opened in 2014, it happens to be the first vegan ice cream shop in Seattle, with a variety of rotating flavors, gluten-free toppings, and other freshly baked sweets.

6. Nutty Squirrel Gelato

This family-owned business is one that portrays how their product is made entirely from scratch. with rotating flavors that change with the seasons such as Sea Salt Caramel, Turkish Coffee, and Stracciatella. As well as a tribute some pretty “nutty flavors”, the name Squirrel is to “represent our beautiful, forested surroundings here in the Northwest, and Nutty is who we are!”

7. Full Tilt Ice Cream

of course, when one opens up an ice cream shop, they can never go wrong with adding a little entertainment to the soda fountain aesthetic. Having opened in 2008, owners Ann Magyar and Justin Cline provide their ice cream shop, along with a variety of creative flavors, “new and vintage arcade and pinball machines, an eclectic mix of sodas, an amazing mix of music on our stereos, and some of the finest beers the Northwest has to offer. After extensive research and testing, we have scientifically created a fun environment for people of all ages.”

8. Kurt Farm Shop

If one were to describe fresh ice cream made from farm-grown ingredients like this next shop, it would be described as “rich, luxurious and not too sweet.”. Such flavors include lemon verbena, rose geranium, Triple Crown blackberries, bay laurel, Sungold tomato jam and many more. Along with a variety of cheeses and other creameries, the farm holds a series of workshops during the summer, as well as the release of two cookbooks and two farm fiction books.

9. Frankie & Jo’s

With this popular ice cream joint, their mission is simple: to radically shift the way you think about ice cream. Made entirely out of plant-based ingredients, one of the many ways to take care of our planet, no one who enters will every look at this sweet treat the same again. Regular flavors include Salty Caramel Ash, Gingerbread Golden Milk, Brown Sugar Vanilla, Chocolate Tahini Supercookie, and Beet Strawberry Rose sorbet.

10. Sugar Plum

One of the many branches of restaurants founded by Chef Makini, this nifty ice cream spot runs with a daily special, as well as different flavors for each season served in a waffle bowl. And when was the last time you had a quality banana split that also rotates by season?

11. Cupcake Royale

No, it’s not entirely what this next place is known for, as shown in the name. But, if a confectionary can keep their promise of delicious cupcakes, then they surely can do the same for their ice cream. And, that’s exactly what this Seattle favorite does for all their confectionaries. Perfect for birthdays or just when your sweet tooth is calling, their classic pink aesthetic is what separates them from other shops in Seattle.

12. Nue

If you want to talk about the creativity that comes with these places and their ice cream, how about one that’s entirely made with liquid nitrogen? With an ethnic menu for every meal and flavors such as French toast and bacon, halva, Mexican street corn, smoked hay, caramelized coconut, and shiso honey, it is one of the many places that mirror the colorfulness of Capitol Hill.

13. Salt and Straw

Based in Portland, Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Chocolate Gooey Brownie, Honey Lavender, Elm Coffee & Westland Whiskey, and vegan flavors such as Mint Chip w/Theo Chocolate, Rachel’s Raspberry Ginger Beer, and Cloudforest Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies & Cream. With the Seattle locations opening in Capitol Hill and Ballard, it opened based on “luck and love.” If that luck hadn’t been tested with that shared dream of quality ice cream, who else would have been able to make that statement throughout the PNW.
