There are many places to drink in Tallahassee, and therefore many drinks to try. This list will focus on drinks to order when out at clubs and bars rather than drinks to order with dinner or with your cute Sunday brunch at MadSo. So, here are 10 of the best drinks to order when going out in Tallahassee that you have to try.
You’ve probably heard of a Sex on the Beach cocktail before, and sure you could order one from a fancy restaurant and be ridiculously overcharged to receive a highball glass and orange peel garnish. However, if you’re out at one of Tallahassee’s many college bars, the cheap, college version of a Sex on the Beach tastes great, is full of vodka, and won’t cost you more than a few dollars.
Ah, the blue motherfucker. The name is fun to say. It’s sweet, it’s full of alcohol, and it’s bright blue. What’s not to love?
Tequila is my personal favorite kind of alcohol and this sweet drink makes you feel more like you’re on a beach than in a bar, plus there are so many pretty colors. BONUS: If you like the idea of tequila but a sunrise is a little too sweet for you, try a tequila sour.
Remember those Shirley Temples from your childhood? The only ingredients are sprite and grenadine but somehow, they were the best drink you could imagine. Now you’re all grown up and so is Shirley. Ladies, asking a guy to order you one is always fun too.
Sometimes you’re sick of being the soberest person in the bar and just want to be drunk already- now is the time to get some alcohol in your system in the form of shots. If you’re at a loss for what shot to order, a few student faves are Fireball (mmm, the taste of cinnamon,) Rumple (mmm, the taste of mouth wash,) or a good ol’ tequila shot (mmm, the taste of bad decisions.)
I’m including this shot because they’re one of the tastiest ones I know, so it’s a good drink to have in your arsenal when ordering drinks for a group of people who may have different tastes or capacities for taking shots. Mixed shots are a fantastic way to start off the night (before your taste buds are numb and can handle worse-tasting things.)
If you’re a whiskey person, this one is for you. If you aren’t a whiskey person, this one is also for you because the pickle juice instantly neutralizes the taste. You can find these shots at Room 21V.
This classic happy hour drink includes all the calories of beer, but with a higher sugar content! Plus, it gets you drunk faster than regular beer due to all of those other fun alcohols mixed in and can last you a little while since it’s served in a large pitcher. Tallahassee is a fantastic place. These drinks are a specialty at Potbelly’s.
Taylor Made’s are like the cousin of the lunchbox that live right up the street- at Clyde’s. The amoretto brings a nice sweetness to the beer-based mixed drink. This is also a painless way to ease yourself into drinking beer if you haven’t quite acquired a taste for it.
If you didn’t know this was going to be the list topper, then you don’t live in Tally or are very, very new. This legendary drink is an aspect of Tallahassee culture (after all, it was invented here). While Vodka and Red Bull is a fantastic and lethal combo, the best thing about this drink is the way you drink it- all at once, the same way you shotgun a beer. By the end of your college career you’ll be finishing Y-Bombs in record time, and with minimal spillage.
