10 Best Breweries Around Minneapolis

Minneapolis, Minnesota has become a brewery HAVEN over the last few years, which makes it the perfect place to start trying craft beers. With over 120 breweries to choose from across the entire state, it can be an overwhelming endeavor to pick which ones to visit. Below are the best of the best in Minneapolis to help you impress your coworkers and classmates with your pick for next week’s Happy Hour. Here are are the 10 best breweries around Minneapolis.

Surly

The obvious choice for number 1, Surly is the biggest and baddest brewery on the block. (Did you know they even helped change Minnesota brewery laws?) With so many great beers to choose from, it’s almost not fair to anyone else on the scene. Try Hell or Furious for a taste of what got them on the map, or grab a pour of Todd the Axe Man to start a dangerous love affair.

Fulton

Another homerun in Northeast Minneapolis, Fulton delivers something for everyone. Try a Lonely Blonde at the bar, or their well-known Sweet Child of Vine IPA for something a bit more hoppy. Looking for something stronger, dark and delicious? Their barrel-aged brews are sure to please.

Bauhaus

For a quirkier pick, there’s Bauhaus Brew Labs. Their German-style beers with a twist will keep you coming back time and time again. Try the Wonderstuff for a new year-round go-to, or a flight of their “Seasonal Curiosities” to experience all of the juicy, crisp or malty flavors you’re thirsting for.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

Venture a little more north to hit Fair State Brewing Cooperative where you’ll find Hefeweizens, sours, IPAs, and even a Hibiscus brew on tap. They’ve got a great outdoor space, release a new beer (almost) every Thursday, and have arguably the funkiest branding in the microbrew biz. Don’t forget your crowler on the way out!

Dangerous Man Brewing

Three words: Peanut Butter Porter. If that doesn’t hook you, then maybe a Cream Ale or a selection of Sours? It might be on the smaller side of Minneapolis breweries, but Dangerous Man offers a BIG brewing game. Their unique flavors (Strawberry Pineapple Milkshake IPA, anyone?), cozy taproom, and the ability to bring in your own food are definitely worth your while.

Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative

The Northernmost location (and the smallest taproom) on the list, Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative is one of the highest-rated microbreweries in the area. Their year-round beers include a Lavender-infused IPA and a sweet, lightly-hopped stout. Stop by this hidden gem to pick up your crowlers and growlers to enjoy their brews at home!

Pryes Brewing Company

Located along the West bank of the Mississippi, Pryes Brewing Company has a 6,000-square-foot taproom AND dog-friendly patio to accompany its award-winning beers, Miraculum and Barleywine. Sign up for a Feather Bowling league with your friends and enjoy their pours for weeks on end. You can’t go wrong with any of these breweries around Minneapolis!

Beer-lovers should try the Hop-A-Wheelie Hopped Apple Cider before going to their standard brew, or try a pour of the Blood Orange Freewheeler for a big mouthful of flavor. With great resident food trucks and rotation of events, your happy hour might just turn into a happy evening.

Summit Brewing

Another loophole on the list if you want to head East of Minneapolis, hit up Summit Brewing in St. Paul from Thursday-Saturday! One of the OGs of Minnesota brewing, Summit has been around for it all. Sip through their year-round brews (Extra Pale Ale and Saga IPA are a surefire win), then their seasonals and limited releases on your return trips that follow. There are tons of great breweries around Minneapolis!

Indeed Brewing Co

The “beertenders” at Indeed will help you find just the beer you’ve been looking for. With 16 taps of craft beer, from their well-known Day Tripper Pale Ale and Let It Ride IPA to their variety of seasonal rotations, you won’t go thirsty here.
