While most days we are probably cooking what ever we bought at the grocery store, other day it’s fun to order takeout and show support for your local restaurants. During quarantine, we have been lucky enough to find that a good amount of restaurants have stayed open for curbside pickup, delivery and takeout. Boston has some incredible food to choose from, and has made ordering on your phone easier than ever during this time. Here’s the best Boston spots for takeout right now (and always!)
Located in the Seaport, Bartaco is one spot that you can be sure to get great food from. Whether you are a vegetarian or meat lover, there are many options to choose from when it comes to your choice of tacos. A favorite of mine of the crispy avocado tacos, that are topped with slaw. Drizzle some of their jalapeño hot sauce on them for extra spice and you’ll be in love with the taste of these tacos. Also? They are less than 4 dollars. If you’re not a fan of avocados, try their spiced chicken verde or mojo pork carnitas. Another go-to whenever I visit a Bartaco is their street corn, off the cob. If you’re a fan of grilled corn and cojita cheese, this is a must have on their menu. Along with the corn and tacos, you can also find a chopped salad, full of avocado, queso fresco, radishes, romaine lettuce and their cilantro-lime vinaigrette. It will be better than the one you can make at home and taste and smell so fresh. Lastly, if you’ve never tried a cucumber salad before- it will be a great idea to for the hotter days in New England while we are in quarantine. The spicy cucumber salad comes in a little tub to-go, filled with spices so good you will forget you’re really eating vegetables. Bartaco in Boston is open for takeout Monday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, and you can order online through their website.
Well of course the North End has to be on a list of places to grab food for takeout during quarantine. For some of the best Italian food, and homemade Italian food for a cozy night during quarantine or a romantic date night at home – head to Al Dente for pick up (with a mask on of course.) The portions of pasta are massive for one person and come in reusable containers (even better!). Their alfredo is a favorite, along with their tortellini and arrabbiata sauce. If you’re a fan of caprese sandwiches, try their caprese salad that goes great with bread. If you live with a few people and want an Italian spread for dinner, order their bruschetta and bread. You can spread your own amount of bruschetta on bread that will soon become a favorite in your household. Al Dente is located on Salem street in the North End and open Monday through Sunday for takeout.
How can anyone not like a bowl of ramen on a cold day? (Or any day to be honest) Harvard Square in Cambridge has their location of Hokkaido Ramen Santouka open for takeout during quarantine. You probably know of this restaurant already if you have been to the Back Bay, Boston location, considering here is usually always a line out the door to get food (since it’s that delicious.) You can go on their websites to see which locations of this restaurant are open, and order for pickup through Ubereats. Through here you can choose your type of noodles, broth, fillings, and specify whether you want extra noodles, vegan broth, more green onion, etc. Their ramen comes in a great portion size bowl with the noodles and filling separate, and then you mix it at home to your liking.
I recently discovered Saus and am so happy I did. They are known for their sauces, such as their secret saus and cheddar ale saus (both delicious and a part of their 15 sauces that they offer). They have crispy chicken sandwiches as well as vegetarian options like their veggie burger (made from farro, red beans and kale). If you have not tried Saus yet, you’re missing out on dipping their fries into all their different sauces to choose from or even having their poutine, which we know, you never go wrong with poutine. Head down to the Fanueil Hall area, on Union Street, to grab some well needed takeout from Saus. You can order online for food from Saus, and even check out one of their home meal kits if you want to make your own sandwiches at home.
Another North End favorite, and I’m sure to many other people too. Paulis is always packed and somehow all the food gets out quick and tastes phenomenal (what more could we ask for?). If you attended college in Boston, or just came to visit the North End, chances are you have probably walked past Paulis, been there or heard of it. I’m not sure exactly what they are known for as their specialty food because everything is good but they have beloved lobster rolls, pasta, burgers, seafood, wings, breakfast food, salads, amazing subs, etc. You can order straight through Paulis website for pickup or give them a call for ordering during quarantine. They are a go-to for during quarantine, and before and after with great prices, quality food and big portions. They were open during quarantine for a while, but will be closed until May 18th. Make sure to check them out once they reopen!
Located right behind Bricco, in the alleyway is Bricco Salumeria. If you’re familiar with the North End, you probably know of the restaurant Bricco. While we cannot sit down in a restaurant right now, we can still grab takeout from the North End. Bricco Salumeria is a little store full of to-go homemade pasta, olive oils, sauces, as well as a deli for what might be the greatest Italian sandwich ever. The portions are huge, and taste super fresh. The sandwiches are made right in front of you, with fresh bread, vegetables, meats, cheeses and spices. Check Bricco Salumeria out during quarantine as well as whenever quarantine ends!
