10 Best 2018 Horror Movies To Watch Before Halloween
School season is upon us which means it’s almost time to get spooky! Although there are a variety of scary films you can choose to binge before the big night, here are the 10 best 2018 horror movies to watch before Halloween.
1. A Quiet Place
Anything with Emily Blunt and/or John Krasinski is going to automatically get a gold star in my book but this film deserved all the hype. Stepping into an unexpected genre where the sheer act of silence plays a critical role within the film and the whole movie watching experience makes it a necessary watch before Halloween. With 2018 being an area where so much can be said the true horror rises in what happens when we remain quiet.
2. Truth Or Dare
An interesting take on a seemingly harmless childhood game, Truth or Dare capitalizes on that in-between state. At a time when playing this game has lost its enticing nature, things turning deadly rather quickly gets the audience hooked. For those of you who find ordinary things being inverted the ultimate scare, this film is a must-watch before Halloween. You can even try to recreate those creepy smiles!
3. Wildling
If you like some drama with your horror, Wildling may be right up your alley. With combinations of the supernatural world in a standard coming of age story, the beast inside of you will come out while watching this film. This mixing of genres is just crazy enough to work and could become part of your annual Halloween movie marathons!
4. Mom & Dad
Dark comedy is a genre that many people are drawn to and sometimes the horror can even amplify the pleasure. Mom & Dad attempts to swirl those concepts together and if that isn’t your thing, you can always watch it for the simple fact that Nicholas Cage is somehow in another film. If you’re prone to nightmares where you feel like your loved ones are out to get you, you might want to steer clear of this movie!
5. Before I Wake
For those of us on the scaredy cat end of the horror movie spectrum, Before I Wake could be a smooth transition into the genre. A child’s dreams become physically real as he sleeps and the captivating nature of this creates a tinge of horror. This would be the best film to watch before Halloween if you don’t want to jump out of your skin after watching.
6. Unsane
Let’s start with the fact that this movie is shot entirely with an iPhone camera and heavily consider that when deicing to give this film a chance. If you are a fan of mystery and the role plays in a thriller, Unsane is the Halloween movie for you. It is an in your face film that will leave you wanting to find answers for the main character.
7. Annihilation
Another film that fits into the unknown category, but it definitely has some horror film tendencies. Scientists journeying through mysterious fields and having things slowly revealed to you are definite scary movie tactics. An extra point goes towards the Halloween movie category in case you just want to watch another Natalie Portman film!
8. Hereditary
What can induce more horror than family secrets? Family hidden truths manifesting into horrifying things is enough to get anyone on board. You can watch this film and decide if it deserved all the hype it gained over time and let me know what you think!
9. The First Purge
This may already be on your Halloween movie list if you are deep into the Purge franchise or maybe you want to backtrack through the films. Either way, the horror in The First Purge resides in how ordinary people resort to extraordinary measures when no laws are present. If you want an introduction to the franchise this could be an entry-way, or you can watch it for the absurdity present. This is one of the best 2018 horror movies!
10. The Predator
Here we have another franchise that is continued through twists and turns. The Hunt comes home on September 13th, so you’ll have time to catch this film before Halloween night. Since it hasn’t come out yet, the reviews are just speculation and you will be able to make your own conclusion about it. Here’s hoping it is a success and becomes part of your Halloween movie collection!
