10 Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

Lemon water is a tasty beverage that you need to be drinking all summer. People are always drinking lemon water but do you know why? It’s not just for taste and hydrations- there are many benefits to drinking lemon water that you might not know of. After reading this article you’ll be sure to get your daily dose of lemon water to feel healthy and refreshed all season long.

1. It’s Hydrating

Yeah, yeah, yeah we all know water is hydrating but it’s really hard to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water daily but that’s a lot of water when you think about it. Putting some lemon in your water can spice it up and make it easier to drink that eight 8 oz. of water a day. No one really drinks this much water unless you’re an athlete or purposefully trying to drink that much but staying hydrated is really important for many reasons. Some of the benefits of staying hydrated include cardiovascular health, muscle, and joint function, skin health, and it cleanses your whole body.

2. It Tastes Good

Adding some flavor to your water can help you drink more and the more you drink, the more benefits you get from it. Drinking eight glasses water a day is hard but if you throw some lemon into it, it might be a little more easy to drink. Even if you don’t drink eight, some water is better than none and you’ll be getting the benefits of both the water and the lemon combined which makes for a powerful, nutrient-rich drink that has so many more benefits than just keeping you hydrated.

3. Helps Digestion

Lemon water can act as a laxative when drunken in the morning. Drinking warm or hot lemon water helps get your digestive system going and helps you digest and process food throughout the day. Warm or hot lemon water helps prevent constipation and the sour taste of the lemon helps to stimulate your “Agni,” which is the process of your digestive system and metabolism getting fired up and put to work in your body.

4. Good Source of Vitamin C

When people think of vitamin C, they usually think of how it aides your immune system but there are so many other benefits of vitamin C that you might not know about. Vitamin C aids in aids in the repair of all body tissues which means that it helps you form collagen, which slows the aging process and helps you look younger longer. Also, vitamin C helps you absorb iron which is especially important for the ladies and wound healing which is important in preventing scarring of the skin. Other benefits include the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth. Basically, it’s a little beauty secret that also helps your immune system- who can say no to that?

5. Aids In Weight Loss

Both water and lemon alone have been proven to promote weight loss and together they are even more powerful. Lemon boosts your metabolism which leads to weight loss and water increases your metabolism by speeding up thermogenesis which is the process of calories being burned to produce heat so together they combine to make an even more powerful metabolism booster that can help you lose weight.

6. Improves Skin Health

Drinking lemon water purifies your skin as much as using a powerful mask. How does it do that you say? When you drink lemon water, your skin cells go into detox mode and they start to force out impurities and sweat which can clog pores and cause impurities or even acne. Who needs a $40 dollar face cream when you can just buy some lemons at the store and have clearer skin along with so many other benefits.

7. Freshens Breath

Drinking lemon water can freshen your breath by adding some flavor to your mouth and helps you produce more saliva which also freshens your breath. The citric acid in lemon helps stimulate saliva production which helps to moisturize mouth and prevent bad breath. A home remedy for bad breath is adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 cup of water and rinsing with it by why just rinse with it when you can drink it and reap all of the other awesome benefits.

8. Full Of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are really important in a healthy diet. They breakdown free radicals that prevent diseases like heart disease or cancer. Free radicals are formed when your body breaks down food or when you are exposed to pollutants like tobacco smoke or radiation. With all of the pollutants in our environment, it’s important to have a diet with sufficient antioxidants to fight all of those unhealthy chemicals we are consuming every day. Lemons are full of antioxidants and if putting a lemon in your water helps prevent cancer then why not?

9. Lemons Are Full Of Fiber

Having a diet high in fiber is strongly linked to having a lower weight and it’s not just because it keeps you full throughout the day. Fiber aids in bowel movements by increasing the weight and size of what you are dispelling from your body while softening it so it’s easier to dispel.  Fiber also lowers your cholesterol and controls blood sugar levels, which all help you achieve a healthy weight and live longer.

10. Protects You Against Anemia

Whether it’s over-hyped, or not, women are known to be more susceptible to anemia and men. There are theories that it’s because we don’t get enough red meat because chicken is associated with women and steak is associated with men but bottom line, we could all use an aide to help prevent anemia as it can make you tired and sluggish along with other health problems. The vitamin C and citric acid and lemons help your body absorb more iron and anemia is an iron deficiency (if you didn’t know).
