With spring in full bloom, us Gators here in Gainesville experience much warmer weather compared to the chilly temperatures that swept through the swamp a few months ago. Spring semester is different from fall term for more reasons than just the lack of football games. During spring, students are eager to finish up the semester and make it to the sunny and long-awaited summer. Amid all of the stress and craziness that the end of the semester brings, it is important to take the time to relax and clear your mind. Whether it is to study, eat lunch with friends, explore, or just take a break from the chaos of the school day, these locations are super convenient and even more relaxing. Keep reading for some of the most beautiful places at the University of Florida!
The Plaza of the Americas is always buzzing with student activity. From student organization tables to the infamous Krishna lunch, there is always something happening on the grass of the plaza. This is the ideal spot on campus to come with your blanket (or maybe your Eno hammock) to eat some Krishna, enjoy the pretty views of Library West, and, more than likely, run into some friends too.
The North Lawn is a popular destination for student activity. As a part of the Reitz Union and with its close proximity to The Hub, it makes for a perfect in-between spot to catch up with friends and admire the pristine views of the newly renovated Reitz Union.
Lake Alice is practically a landmark on the UF Campus. This gorgeous lake is a spectacle to see at any time. It is quiet and away from the commotion of central campus, which makes it a great spot to unwind. You may even spot a gator!
You may have seen this triangular wooden building tucked back behind the trees and even drove past it dozens of times, but you are probably not quite sure what exactly it is. I’m referring to The Baughman Center. This scenic building was designed as a contemplation space; therefore, it makes an excellent place to unwind and appreciate the natural Florida views.
Looking to explore on campus? If so, you should check out the University Gardens. Take the opportunity to wander down the trail and absorb the rich greenery that is part of the University of Florida’s natural environment.
The Butterfly Rainforest, part of the Florida Museum of Natural History, recreates the scenery of a real rainforest ecosystem. It is home to hundreds of radiant butterflies, as well as quail and finch birds, coy fish, turtles, and a multitude of vivid tropical plants. You can watch the daily butterfly releases and even take a picture with one of the butterflies that will surely land on you (if you stand in the sun)!
