An Open Letter To All The Badass Single Moms Out There

There are many single moms that wake up every day, ready to take on the world. The following is an open letter to those badass single moms.

Dear Badass Single Moms,

I want you to know that I see you.

I see you when you are trekking through the store, trying to focus on a shopping list while your kids focus on working your nerves. Yet, you keep shopping until that list is done. I see you when you try to juggle life with kids, life with work, life with errands, chores, and appointments. Sometimes you have help from family and friends. Other times you pay for help through daycare. I see how you always put your kids and jobs first, always ahead of yourself, even though you know ‘you’ time is also extremely important and you’ve been needing that time for quite a while. I see how hard you work to make ends meet, working long hours and sometimes multiple jobs. I know that at times you feel guilty because you work so much and it saddens you that you miss so much time with your children, but you do what you’ve got to do for the time being. You are one of the many amazing badass single moms and you should be proud.

I see the way people react to you and the fact that you are indeed single.

How can you do it alone? Isn’t it hard? Don’t you wish you had someone in your life? And among those questions, probably the most bothersome of them all: where’s the father? I see how you handle those questions with grace and politeness, even though they are as rude as can be and you would rather just tell them that it’s none of their business. I see how those questions sting, even though you do your best to not let it show. Here’s my open letter to all the badass single moms out there.

I see that you’ve changed.

You are not the same person that you once were and you continue to grow each day. You are always finding yourself, learning just how strong you are, just how brave you are, and just how truly important you are to those that need you and love you. I see how you guard yourself and your kids because you’ll be damned if you let anyone step in and wreak havoc on your lives. I see how hesitant you are because you once lost someone you loved and aren’t quite ready to move on, yet.

I see the way your eyes light up when things go right.

When you get that promotion, when you finally buy that new car, when you can take your kids on that vacation they have been wanting. When you just feel genuinely happy and optimistic about the future. I see the way your eyes tear up when things become just too much to bear and you’re not sure how you are going to make it through. And then I watch you pick yourself back up again, more determined than ever before. I see you when you are completely exhausted after having spent the night taking care of your sick kids, cuddling them, bathing them, checking temperatures, and administering medicine. I see you when you become ill and have no choice but to take care of yourself along with everyone else to the best of your ability. I see you as you try to set the best examples for your kids and I see you when you are setting the best examples without even realizing or trying.

I want you to know that I see you because it is important for you to know that your struggles do not go unnoticed.

Your triumphs do not go unnoticed. The resilience of you and how you rise above everything that seems to be against you does not go unnoticed. Your efforts to provide the best for your kids do not go unnoticed. One day, they will tell you how much they appreciate all that you do (if they haven’t already). Life is hard and exhausting. Sometimes you may forget to be proud of yourself, to love yourself, among all of the chaos.

That is why I want you to know that I see you. That is why I tell you this: you are truly badass.

Keep on keeping on!
