When I first arrived in Indiana from Illinois, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to find the unique variety of restaurants and bars that I was lucky enough to stumble in to. So, for those of you who don’t think you have many options in Northwest Indiana, I invite you to think again. Here are 10 awesome bars and restaurants in Schererville you need to check out.
One of the first places I was lucky enough to find is Region Ale off of Indianapolis Blvd. in Schererville. When you walk in, there is plenty of seating and you can pick your choice of beer from their menu on the wall. They have a wide variety of beer on tap, as well as some other local wines and a few cocktails. I’ll always remember the flight of beer I ordered which featured a jalapeno beer that I’ve never tried. Their food menu is quite eclectic and it changes seasonally. Region Ale also has bands on the weekends and will host special events such as lamb roasts or different days in which they will have “trivia nights” or “pajama parties”. It’s a very unique spot, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick bite and a brew. It’s a great restaurant in Schererville for a chill night.
Next door to Region Ale is a great Mexican restaurant called Coyote Cantina. For weeks I had been craving a spicy margarita, and although they don’t have one featured on their menu, the bartender was happy to accommodate my wish. I’ve never experienced such a tasty treat, and I will most definitely return. Their menu boasts many specialty cocktails and margaritas and their bar and restaurant area is extremely clean. House made chips and salsa are given out upon being seated, and their menu looks delicious! Unfortunately, I only sampled drinks that evening but I will be back.
Just outside of Schererville on Route 30 is a nice little gem called Bin 27. This restaurant has the nicest patio and some of the cleanest restrooms I have ever seen. Their staff is extremely personable, and they have a nice selection of wine, craft cocktails and bottled beer. They also feature a bloody mary on their appetizer menu because it is one of those bloody mary’s that has all of the food pouring out of it, which I’m sure is the perfect Sunday treat for many. We tried the calamari which was absolutely delicious and lightly fried, along with their wedge salad and a flatbread pizza. They have a unique variety of Italian fare, and I know anyone could easily find something they would be pleased with.
Another Italian restaurant just outside of Schererville is Little Italy. We arrived on a Saturday around 5:00 pm and it was extremely crowded so I highly recommend making a reservation. Freshly baked bread is served upon arriving and everything is made fresh in house. They also have a nice cocktail list, and although they don’t list what kind of wine they serve, their glasses of wine are only $6 and delicious! I can honestly say that I don’t EVER order the house wine after many bad experiences, but I would definitely order theirs again. We tried their white fish which was absolutely delicious. Other people in our party had the gnocchi which was the perfect dish of buttery pillows as they should be, and their other pasta dishes were absolutely delicious. There are some great Italian restaurants in Schererville.
Although it is a chain which I know everyone is familiar with, the Houlihan’s on Indianapolis Blvd. is a wonderful spot to grab a cocktail and a bite to eat. Their bar area is typically never crowded and their service is always phenomenal. The bartenders and servers are always extremely polite, and I’ve never had a bad experience with any of their dishes or drinks. I highly recommend their flat breads and their extensive happy hour menu if you can make it. They also serve a bacon blue cheese martini which is on point! Even if it’s a chain, it’s one of the best restaurants in Schererville.
Just off of Route 30 is a bar called Social which may not be for everyone due to the fact that smoking is allowed inside. However, if you can tolerate the smoke, you will be happy to know that their drinks are $6! Along with that, they also have bands on the weekends and a wonderful food menu! We have ordered their chicken wraps many times and they have a great appetizer selection as well. In the warmer months, you can sit on their outdoor patio which is always nice to combat the indoor smoking. Their staff is also always super friendly, as well. If you’re looking for something local that won’t put a huge dent in your wallet, this is it!
If you’re out venturing in downtown Schererville, you may stumble upon Schererville Lounge. Although it may not look like much from the outside, you will be pleasantly surprised by their food selection and the quality upon walking in. They feature all-you-can-eat dishes throughout the week, and they make one mean martini! Their bread is baked fresh and I’ve heard many comments from people about how much they frequent this location, as it has been around for many years.
Also just outside of Schererville is an amazing brewery that I was happy to stumble upon called Wild Rose. Wild rose has one of the most unique settings and a huge outdoor patio! They feature a small selection of their own crafted beers on tap and you can also take home a growler for $15. If you’re not into beer, they have their own house-made cider on tap as well as a nice, small selection of wine and prosecco.
Their food menu, although small, is absolutely delicious! Everything is made fresh and I can’t say enough about their homemade pretzel with house-made beer cheese. They feature a unique variety of sandwiches, flatbread pizza and salad as well as battered cheese curds and other appetizers. This is a must try if you enjoy beer! They also feature bands on the weekends, and I can’t wait until the weather is warmer and can get outside on their lovely patio.
R Bar is located just off of 41 in a small strip mall. Although I have only been there once, they have a great selection of cocktails and a wonderful Mediterranean menu. The space is a lot larger than it appears so don’t be fooled by the exterior. This is another spot for live music on the weekends if you’re looking for it or maybe you’d just like to watch the fights or a game on TV. Again, if you’re looking for something more local with more of a “bar feel” and decent food, I recommend R Bar.
Lastly, if you happen to be in Whole Foods in Schererville and a beverage and a quick bite are what you’re looking for, you’ll be happy to know that they have their own bar with a food menu located just inside the store. It’s called Brewhouse 41, and they have a great selection of wines for $5 as well as craft beers. Their menu features a variety of sandwiches and caters to just about everyone, including vegans, vegetarians and other special diets. They even have the new Beyond Meat burger on their menu and a few poutines if that’s your thing.
It’s very inexpensive and something I wouldn’t often think of when I’m looking to go out. But it’s a nice way to sit back, relax, perhaps catch a game on one of their TVs and then do some grocery shopping after. Perhaps you may even find a new wine you like and will be able to pick it up right in store. You definitely need to check out these bars and restaurants in Schererville.
