10 Types Of People You’ll Meet In Melbourne

We all know that stereotypes can be wildly inaccurate, but they do exist for a reason. Whether it’s out at the bars or around university, these are the 10 types of people you’ll meet in Melbourne!

1. The workaholic

Often found with a phone to their ear and an iPad or laptop in front of them. It doesn’t matter if they’re on a tram or at the coffee shop, these people embody the saying ‘married to the job’.

2. The hipster

Known for eating avo on pretty much everything and asking for their coffee deconstructed. Melbourne hipsters are just like every other hipster, but they’ll deny that of course.

3. The broke uni student

Prone to mental break downs and drinking too much. They’ll either throw everything into their studies to avoid thinking about their life or spend their nights out drinking with friends to avoid studying.

4. The rich uni student

Pretty much the same as the broke uni student, but cashed up. They’re either lucky enough to have found a really good job, they can work around classes or their parents are able to provide all their wants and needs. Rich uni students also seem to have a penchant for parking like arseholes.

5. The party girl/guy

If there’s alcohol or dancing they will be there with bells on. The party people live their lives purely for fun. They’re the last to leave the club at night and you’ll rarely find them sad or sober.

6. The socialite

Almost identical to the party people except a lot less messy and more varied in their venue choices. They’re always at the hottest parties and events and probably have a huge Instagram following.

7. The localist

Essentially Melbourne’s elitists. They’re the first to pipe up when the Melbourne vs Sydney debate comes up and if something didn’t come from Melbourne they definitely won’t approve.

8. The tourist

You’ll find them wandering around aimlessly and questioning why the weathers changed ten times by 11am. They’ll probably ask for directions or recommendations and they’ll definitely be confused by the myki system and cow tree.

9. The protestor

On any given day you won’t have to look hard to find someone protesting for or against something. Protestors are most easily found when they’re running a rally. If you can’t find them, they’ll surely find you. So prepare to be handed flyers and informed of the cause.

10. The bogans

Often associated with the Western suburbs, bogans can be found anywhere. They often congregate outside shopping centres or near your local fast food outlet, but they’re generally harmless as long as you don’t annoy them.

Obviously not everyone is going to fit into just one, or any, of these categories but everyone is pretty much guaranteed to have come across at least one individual from each of these groups.

Share this with someone who falls into any of these categories in Melbourne!
