As a uni student, our lives are often filled with deep, pressing, and philosophical questions… It’s just that most of them are absolutely non related to our coursework! Instead, we sit in our lectures daydreaming about what we will eat for lunch, or fantasizing about that cute boy/girl near us. Some of the questions we have we never even ask out loud, but instead we silently ponder them deep within our souls, hoping for an answer that will satisfy our wondrous minds…Keep reading for the 10 things every RMIT University student asks themselves.

1. Was it worth coming all the way to the city for this one hour lecture?

We all know the feeling of sitting in a one hour lecture in the city campus and thinking to ourselves “ I could have just listened to this online!.” I feel your pain! And those lecture frustrations are particularly intensified when it is a very early morning lecture (8 am lectures, no thank you!), and if you live far from the city. I feel you, I really do. You will need caffeine, and lots of it. Good luck.

2. Is everyone else as lost as I am?

This is one of the totally normal things every RMIT University student asks themselves. Looking around the lecture space and seeing everyone taking notes and look like they’re actually understanding and absorbing the material that’s being presented… PANIC! This begs the question, “is anyone else as lost as me ?!” The answer is probably! Statistically, there are bound to be other students who are just as lost as you with the information. #strengthinnumbers #losties

3. Will I be able to get an extension for this entire subject?

If you were one of the losties from above, then you might actually consider getting an extension for not only one assignment, but for every assignment and exam in that subject! While you’re at it, you might as well get a tutor for that subject. Or better yet, just drop the subject, drop out of uni, movie countries, change your identity, and start afresh.

4. Why must the lecturer change the slides so quickly??!

I feel like there’s a secret sworn code between all lecturers to change the lecture slides quickly just to mess with students. Why else would they keep each side up for only .03 seconds ?? You can’t finish reading the material or even take notes from it ! I am convinced that lecturers get some strange pleasure from this…

5. Should I go to the Cafe, Melbourne central or Lygon street for lunch? Struggles!

One of the most important questions every RMIT city campus student asks themselves each day, “where should I lunch after class?.” The answer could be the difference between an average lunch or #lunchgoals. With so many lunch options, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and stressed when picking a hot lunch spot. For delish yet healthy wraps and sandwiches, I recommend the cafes within building 80 at RMIT. For top notch Italian (pizza, pasta, gelato, where can you go wrong ?), walk over to Lygon street, and for everything else, Melbourne Central will hook you up. You’re welcome.

6. Why do I spend so much money on food?!

This is one of those things every RMIT University student asks themselves that stands for all uni students. If you’re one of the foodies who spends their uni days days pondering questions such as “where should I lunch”, then it’s likely that you spend the majority of your income on food. Join the club. With so many lunch joints in the city, it’s more than easy to splash your cash on anything edible in front of you, even if you’re not hungry. We’ve all been guilty of buying food when we’re not even hungry, and why is this ? Because we’re foodies! And also boredom eating is a thing. Google it.

7. Is that cute boy/girl in my lecture/ tute single?

With classes having a mix of ages, genders, subject backgrounds,and nationalities, you’re bound to find a few cuties in some of your classes. This begs the question, “are they #single and #dtf ?!” who knows ! This is one of questions you unfortunately can ’t get an answer from without actually asking the cutie in subject. Soz. If you’re too shy like me however, ask some of their friends at uni or whip out your laptop/phone and do some serious FB stalking. Happy stalking, and I hope to get an invite to your future weddings!

8. Should I go to the library after my lecture for a quick study sesh or go shopping at Melbourne Central?

Go shopping. Because the chances are, if you’re already thinking about doing activities other than studying, then you’re not going to study very productively, and in that case you might as well go be productive and buy a cute outfit to impress that cutie in your class that may or may not be single! You can study later (we both know that you won’t but saying this to yourself will make you feel slightly better about your poor study habits!)

9. Should I stay at uni for my afternoon tute or go home and nap?

Nap. Always. All day. Everyday. Do I even need to elaborate ?

10. Can my lecturer/ tutor tell that I’m not actually taking any notes, but instead face booking my friends?

Yes we’re all guilty of this, don’t pretend this insn’t one of the things every RMIT University student asks themselves. Opening up your laptop in a lecture or cute and instead of taking down valuable notes, you start chatting with your mates on Facebook, or tagging each other in #lolworthy memes. The question is, does your lecturer know you’re totally not paying attention ? Probably. But the most important question is, do they care? Most likely not. They get paid to stand there and talk whether anyone is listening or not. Cha ching.
