As any Melbournian will know, Melbourne has been crowned as being the King of Brunch with tons of brunch spots to break your fast throughout the city. Brunch is definitely one of my most favourite cuisines, if it can be called a cuisine! I can never resist poached eggs on top of some kind of fritter or hash brown. In Melbourne, brunch spots are in stiff competition with themselves, forever creating exciting and tantalising treats to tempt us all, including deconstructed menu items, bottomless brunches, numerous types of fritters with different ingredients, fusions of different cuisines, breadcrumbed poached eggs, pumpkin hash browns…the thought of all of this makes me want to go out for brunch right now!
Although there are thousands of extremely delicious brunch spots, here are 7 very special ones that I think every Melbournian or traveler visiting Melbourne should make a plan to visit at least once. You will not be disappointed!

This happening spot is located on Hardware Street, right in the heart of the CBD. Be aware though, this place always has a line, no matter what time of the day you visit! It is so popular that you will be looking at waiting at least 20 to 30 minutes to get seated! This is of course because the food is so wonderfully delicious, with gorgeous coffee and unique dishes with a French twist such as Dulce de Leche French Toast, Duck Truffled Benedict and Breaded Sardines with Poached eggs. Wow. The options are so unique and are definitely making my mouth water as I type!
This hidden little gem is located just in between Fitzroy and Collingwood, in a little nook just off the main road of Johnston Street. The decor is very cozy and it boasts its own inhouse bakery, so you can be sure that all of the bread and pastries that you enjoy are fresh and delicious. This relaxed yet chic place has a welcoming indoor section and quirky garage style outdoor section where pets are allowed! Their bakery is artisinal and sourdough focused, with speciality coffee served as well and their menu changes according to the locally sourced ingredients that are available. Some of the menu highlights include their fluffy and massive ricotta pancakes, the smoked trout on top of potato and leek hash with pickled zucchini and their delicious fritters! You will not regret spending a morning (or early afternoon) here. They also serve lunch dishes which are especially tasty as well as of course very delicious coffee.
Hannah’s is an airy, plant filled oasis located in the heart of St Kilda East. It is very hip, yet at the same time warm and inviting, with speciality coffee, freshly pressed juices and variety of dishes. Almost every Melbourne brunch establishment has one item on the menu dedicated to mushrooms, and I have to say their Shh Room dish with poached eggs takes the cake as one of the best I have ever tried. It is cooked in parmesan and potato cream and drizzled with truffle oil, which might explain why! It is definitely a must try for a yummy morning which will definitely satisfy anyones morning cravings.

Reunion and Co is located just off Burnley Street on the main road. It is in direct competition with a few other brunch spots right next to it, however it is definitely the winner out of all of them as being very warm, cozy, friendly and also extremely delicious. Many places in Melbourne make fritters of every kind, but I feel that their option was the best I had ever tasted. They have a pea and corn fritter with poached eggs and seasonal greens, and it was to die for! The coffee is also very delicious with freshly squeezed juices and a lunch selection as well.
Three Bags full is another very delicious brunch spot located in the heart of Abbotsford. The warm and cozy feel is great, with many options on the menu for egg lovers. A menu highlight is definitely their savoury French Toast with chorizo, scamorza and red pepper purée. Wow. I feel so lucky to be in a city where brunch spots are actively competing with each other to make such delicious and inventive creations for me to try. It only means that I will never run out of new places no matter how many times I go!
Auction Rooms is a large spot in North Melbourne, which is very happening and quite busy at all times of the day. The coffee as always is very tasty, with delicious menu items such as their Breakfast Board and Corned Beef Hash with slow cooked beef and poached eggs. It has a sunny courtyard and is quite lively which is great for groups and brunch lovers.

This happening spot is a special one, boasting a New York style flair with New York style breakfasts, another city that is known for its amazing brunch spots. The place is a tribute to the NYC Bowery subway station with a traditional American diner theme. Peep the numerous “The New Yorker” magazines scattered around which add to its American theme. They of course have All American classics such as pastrami sandwiches, bagels that are made using the traditional boil and bake method and of course American filter coffee. Its one of the most special places to have brunch in Melbourne with its very strict New York bustling theme, and of course delicious menu items. Its definitely one not to miss if you are a real brunch expert.
