"Hi! My name is Vicki and I am currently studying…
Melbourne has got to be one of the most iconic places in Australia. There are so many different things you can do and visit when on holiday in this city, and I think that is one of the things that makes it so attractive to tourists! I love Melbourne but I have never lived there, so I decided to write a list of 10 places you must visit in Melbourne, from a visitor’s perspective.
1. Royal Botanic Gardens
If you have read any of my other articles, you may know I have a slight obsession with botanical gardens. For this reason, the Royal Botanic Garden in Melbourne had to be number one on my list! No matter what state I am in, I always make it a mission to visit the local botanic gardens, so why would Melbourne be any different?
2. MCG
The Melbourne Cricket Ground is definitely well-known all around the nation. It is home to the AFL Grand Final, and is the largest sporting venue in the country, with a capacity of over 100,000. If you can get there when there is an event on, it would definitely be worth it!
3. National Gallery of Victoria
This is Australia’s oldest, largest and most visited art museum. You can visit a huge array of exhibitions, ranging from local to international artists. I would add this to the itinerary for sure.
4. Melbourne Museum
If viewing exhibitions is your style, after leaving the art gallery why not head down to the Melbourne Museum? Open 10am to 5pm, prices are free for children and concession and $14 for adults.
5. Eureka Sky-deck
Standing at 300 metres high, this skyscraper in the Southbank area has been open since 2006. Priced at $20 for adults, take a ride on the fastest elevator in the Southern Hemisphere, and enjoy the stunning 360-degree views of Melbourne.

Not only can you join insightful tours of this historical sight between 9:30am and 5:00pm everyday, you can also take part in a variety of other style tours at night! Ranging from touring the gaol with a real hangman, to hearing real ghost stories from the gaol (whilst in the gaol), there is something for everyone!
7. ACMI
Located in Federation Square, the Australia Centre for Moving Image is the national museum for art, digital culture, film and video games. Open daily from 10am to 5pm, there are ever-changing exhibitions, meaning that no one visit would ever be the same as the last.
8. Queen Victoria Market
Spreading over almost seven hectares, this is the biggest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere. With a large variety of clothing, jewellery, souvenirs and food, you’re bound to find something to take home! You can even embark on one of the many tours they hold.
