10 Art Projects You Need To Copy While You’re At Home

Art projects are a fun and beneficial way to spend your free time. While spending a lot of time at home, why not get creative with it? You don’t need a full set of art supplies to start creating, a lot of the time you can simply use things you have around the house. From mugs to walls to yarn, we’ve got an art project here for you. Check out 10 projects you have got to try while you’re stuck at home.

Paint an Accent Wall

If you use Tik Tok, you’ve probably scrolled through hundreds of videos of people creating their accent walls. I couldn’t be happier this is trending. Accent walls are so cute and will spice up any bedroom. For those who are unaware of what exactly an accent wall is, it’s one wall in your room that is painted in a different color or pattern than the others, making it stand out. Some great patterns to paint are polka dots, stripes, or stars. Some people even use painters tape to create shapes with thick lines in between them, or you can go in a simpler direction and paint the wall a solid color that is different than the rest, but still matches of course. This art project is sure to keep you busy for hours, if not days.

Canvas Paintings Using Tape

Painting a canvas is a great way to keep busy and makes for great wall decor. Yeah, you can paint your dog, or a flower, or a sunset, but why not try something different? Using painters tape, you can create neat, sleek designs that will look great hanging up on your wall. All you have to do is place the tape down on the canvas, laying it out in the pattern for the design you would like to create. Then go in and paint! You can use one color, and use the white of the canvas as another color, or you can use multiple color paints. When it’s dry, peel the tape off and check out your new designs.

Up-Cycle Picture Frames

Turn those old picture frames into a new work of art, and it couldn’t be easier. Paint your frames and allow them time to dry. Keep in mind that using larger frames works best for this project! Using wire or string, make multiple “clotheslines” through your frame. You can tape or glue these to the back of the frame, or create holes in the sides of the frame and tie them through. Then, use clothespins to hang photos, concert tickets, or any other valuable memories to the “clothesline” and hang it on your wall! This is a fun and trendy way to display your favorite photos and memories on your bedroom wall.

Journal Collage

Making journal collages are so fun and will allow you to get all your emotions out, creatively of course. Take an old book, one with small font, and rip out a few of the pages. If you want to dedicate the entire book to collaging, leave the pages in and overtime fill it up! Cut out photos from magazines, such as models, and glue them onto the journal. Feel free to cut out parts of the photo to allow for the words of the book to pop through. Go in with colored pencils and create your designs around the photos too! Get as creative as you want with this, it’s a great way to express yourself. Filling up the book with your unique collages is a great way to stay busy while staying safe at home!

Lipstick Art

I’m obsessed with this project, as it’s so unique and so much fun to create. All you need is a canvas, or even a simple piece of printer paper, and some fun lipstick! You could use one shade of lipstick, or a variety of fun colors to make your art more diverse. All you do to create this is kiss the canvas or paper you’re working on! Leaving these lipstick prints is so quick and easy, so make multiple and hang them up next to each other on the wall. If you’re working on printer paper, I recommend putting your lipstick art into a frame to make it better for hanging on the wall! Feel free to have fun and get creative with this stay-at-home project.

Paint a Folding Table

Painting a folding table is such a fun way to spend the day or the week. Using painters tape, create a pattern of shapes over the top of the table, making it symmetrical on both sides. Then using pencil, go in and sketch out designs for each shape. A huge trend is to put on fun quotes, pictures of your favorite alcohol, and your school’s logo or mascot. You’ll need to use waterproof sealer when you’ve finished painting and it’s completely dry, this way when you use it nothing smears. This project is sure to keep you busy, and you’ll get so much use out of it (once quarantine is over, of course).

Paint a Cooler

Looking forward to the summer? Why not create something that you’ll use every time you head to the beach or go out on the boat. Painting a cooler is SO much fun. You’ll need acrylic paint, laser-printed photos, Mod Podge, and a waterproof sealer. For the cooler itself, you’ll want one that is completely white, and then primed and sanded down. You can do this to one of your old coolers, but I find it’s easier to order one that’s ready to be painted right away. So, go ahead and order your primed and sanded cooler from Sratstar or Etsy

Sharpie Mugs

Designing a mug is so easy and will make your morning coffee so much better. All you need is some old white mugs, Sharpie Paint Marker Fine Point Oil-Based Pens, and an oven. Create your design on the mug, and simply bake it in the oven on 350 for about 30 minutes. If you make a mistake while creating your mug, dip a Q-tip in some nail polish remover and carefully erase the mistake. These mugs make great gifts for someone you love and miss!

Painted Kitchen Canvas Signs

Using canvases you can create so many fun signs for your kitchen. All you need to do is some paint and some sharpies, and chances are you’ll become addicted. Paint signs saying “But First, Coffee,” “MARTINIS,” or “Tequila Time.” This will add so much character to your kitchen or bar area and you’ll have so much fun creating them. After you’ve made enough for the kitchen, move on to the bathroom! You can make unique signs for your bathroom saying “WASH,” “Get Naked,” or “You Look Great Today!” What will your painted canvas say?

Yarn Wall Art

Yarn wall art is a huge trend for any bedroom. These are so easy to make and will look amazing hanging above your bed! Grab a thin piece of wood or even a stick from outside and chose your favorite colors of yarn. Wrap each piece around the stick, and tie a knot right against it. Then let the yarn hang down, or get creative and braid it! Create different patterns with different colors of yarn and make sure to use a piece of yarn to hang it from the top. This art project is mess-free and makes a great decoration for any room of the house.
