10 Art Projects to Keep You Busy and Creative During Quarantine

Art can be both a fun and meaningful way to express yourself and will help get your creativity flowing during quarantine while you may be sitting bored at home. These 10 art projects are easy for anyone to complete but will give you a fun activity to pass the time. Both therapeutic and easy-going, take these art projects however you may wish. Whether you want to be Picasso or you can only draw stick figures, take each project with a grain of salt and just have fun with it. 

1. Crayon Art

Crayon art is a simple way to create an art piece and have it still appear advanced. Either draw or print out a design or image that you like and paste it onto your canvas. After that, place crayons along the top of the canvas, or on the outer edges, and utilize a hair blow dryer to melt the crayon towards or away from the image. This will give off a melted rainbow look, and box in the image with color. This project only takes a few minutes, yet leads to a beautiful outcome of cute artwork that can be used as decor, or given as a gift. 

2. Painted Pants

For the fashionistas bored in quarantine, painting DIY pant designs can be a fun way to preoccupy your time. Simply invest in fabric or acrylic paint and use it to create a unique personalized image or design on an old pair of jeans. A helpful tip is to first draw out your design in pencil on the pants to ensure little to no mistakes when painting. This art project will give you a fun and fresh customized new pair of pants to rock after quarantine is over.

3. Pressed Flowers

Pressed flowers are commonly seen framed as room or house decorations, however, they can be easily made yourself. All you have to do is find flowers of leaves that you find pretty in your neighborhood, and compress them in between the pages of a thick book. After letting them sit there for 7 to 10 days, the flowers will be pressed to perfection. From there, you can either frame them or paste them to the pages and tear them out.

4. Sketch Book

An easy daily art project is to take some time out of your day and spend it drawing in the same sketchbook. This way you can draw based on however you are feeling that day, and look back on your progress as an artist. 

5. Bullet Journal

Bullet journals became a big trend in late 2018, and early 2019, and this journal style is a good art project to not only express creativity but however bullet journals are also a good everyday organizer. According to GoodHouseKeeping.com, “Equal parts day planner, diary, and written meditation, bullet journaling turns the chaos of coordinating your life into a streamlined system that helps you be more productive and reach your personal and professional goals. With sections to log your daily to-do’s, monthly calendar, notes, long-term wants and more, your BuJo is customized to your life.” 

6. Photoshoot

Although a photoshoot might feel impossible because of the quarantined state that we are currently in, having an indoor photoshoot is an easy way to get up and out of your sweatpants for the day. Try putting together a unique outfit that you have never worn before, or flaunt a new makeup look you have never tried before. Get all fancy to go nowhere and take some pictures, whether you will post them on Instagram or just keep them in your camera roll, this is an artistic way to pass your time and show some self-love.

7. Collage Wall

A collage wall is a fun art project that can be personalized to you and used to decorate your room if you would like. There are two ways in which you can create a collage wall. The first is by simply ordering a set of prints online through websites such as Amazon and tape them to whichever wall that suits your liking in your room. Another option is to create a Pinterest board of photos and designs that you like. After you have comprised all of the pins you like into one folder, print them out and hang them on your wall. To add to the customization you can even utilize your own photographs or cut-outs from magazines.

8. Virtually Tour an Art Museum

According to the website Travel and Leisure, you are able to virtually tour art museums from around the world. Although this isn’t necessarily an art project, this can be an artistic and interesting way to pass the time you have in self-isolation. Fast Company Magazine explains, “Google Arts & Culture teamed up with over 2500 museums and galleries around the world to bring anyone and everyone virtual tours and online exhibits of some of the most famous museums around the world.” 

9. DIY Shirt Print

You might have seen this trend circulate on TikTok, however, it is truly an easy way to DIY your own graphic T-shirts. All you have to do is print out whatever picture you want on your shirt, and plastic wrap the image entirely, covering the whole paper. After this, iron the plastic-wrapped image onto the shirt (do not use steam, only heat). Then iron over the image again after placing parchment paper on top of it. Be sure to press the edges of the image flat onto the T-shirt, and you are done. This easy way to customize shirts can act as a fun DIY project, along with a good way to pass your time. 

10. Make Masks

Amidst this scary time, you can show your support for others less fortunate by making masks. There are various online tutorials that you can find explaining easy ways to sew masks, and this can act as a project to consume your time.
