7 Area Rugs To Spruce Up Your Living Room

It’s coming up on four years now since my husband and I moved in together. Our first apartment was very charming, and in a great location in one of the southern suburbs of Denver. The floors were a nice modern wood laminate, about the only modern thing that I can stand, the windows let in tons of light and the counter tops were a beautiful quartz. These apartments were brand new, and luckily for us, we were the first people to live in our apartment. Do you have any idea how nice an unused bathtub is?! Everything is literally squeaky clean. Since the floors were a wood laminate, we had to buy a couple of different rugs to make our place less echo-y and more homey. We bought a good sized area rug for the living room, a runner for the pseudo hallway that we created between our loveseat recliner and the wall and of course, a rug for the front entry way. I can say with confidence that these rugs, especially the area rug, helped in making our first apartment far more comfortable. Since we’ve moved, said area rug is currently laid out underneath our dining room table; which we couldn’t fit into our first place due to spacing issues. It works for where it is, and makes the dining room look nice. The living room would’ve been too busy had we put it in there. If you’re looking for a way to spruce up your living room, or bedroom or office, here are seven area rugs that would look lovely in any home.

1. Floral

Usually, when it comes down to floral patterns on an area rug, I’m never too impressed with what I see; they always seem to be too busy looking. But with this area rug from Wayfair, I honestly don’t mind the floral pattern on it. The pattern is still intricate in a way, but doesn’t pain me when I look at it. I like how the floral pattern is a longer pile than the rest of the rug. It gives the area rug a lovely dimensional look! Since the colors of this rug are more on the neutral side, it’ll easily match most furniture. I’d be a little wary about black furniture though, as it may end up clashing with the blues in this area rug a bit. This rug is ideal for those of you who want to add a bit more color to your living room!

2. Circular Pattern

I feel like you don’t often see a whole lot of area rugs that are in the shape of a circle. At least, the friends’ and family’s houses that I’ve been to never had one. I actually don’t mind the look so much, especially if you’re pressed for space. This area rug from Target actually would’ve been a good fit for our last apartment! I do like the distressed pattern that this area rug gives off, and how in the center, it almost looks like a sunflower. Plus, I’m always a big fan of neutral colors, as it will easily match any furniture in your living room. If you’re in need of a subtle area rug, then this one is definitely for you!

3. Blue & White

Now, normally I’m not the biggest fan of abstract style; it’s always seemed just sort of blah to look at in my opinion. But I feel like when an abstract style is added to something, like area rugs, it works quite well, and is pleasing to look at. This area rug from Wayfair is a beautiful blend of navy blue, royal blue, aqua, white and grey. I do like that white is the main color, and how the other colors are interspersed throughout. This area rug greatly reminds me of stormy waters; like the sea when a tropical storm is moving through. I usually tend to gravitate more toward cooler colors, as they grant me a sense of peace. This rug would go well with most furniture, although I think off-white or tan would be best. Add some stunning blue accents to your living room with this area rug!

4. Leaves

One of the very first things that I noticed about this area rug from Target is just how bold it is! Red is most definitely a lively hue, and can add an appealing splash of color to your living room. I love the leaf-like pattern on this deep red area rug; it greatly reminds me of fall. This rug looks just like the branches of a tree that has lost most of its leaves in preparation for winter. I do like how the design is black and tan to give the area rug a dimensional look. If you have white or black furniture, this rug would pair beautifully with it! If you’re looking for a simple design that has a vivid color, then this area rug is definitely an ideal choice!

5. Cowhide

Now, first things first, this area rug from Wayfair is faux. No cows were harmed in the making of this rug! Ok, since we’ve got that out of the way, this beautiful area rug features a dark brown and white hide that is super soft to the touch. Growing up in a western household, I was no stranger to cowhides being used either as rugs or for some other decoration. In fact, my parent’s have two stunning cowhides in their house that I simply love; it’s definitely a more rustic look, which I adore. My hubby and I’s furniture, at least the couches, are rustic style, and I know this area rug would look awesome in our living room. For those of us who love the look of western flair, then this awesome rug is for you!

6. Emerald

Emerald green is definitely one of my favorite colors! I love the cooler undertones of green, instead of the warmer ones. It’s more subdued in looks. This area rug from Target is a gorgeous emerald green, with a subtly lined pattern that is weaved throughout the rug. Obviously, the first thing that caught my eye with this rug was the stunning color. The second thing that caught my eye, was the pure simplicity of the area rug. There’s no complicated pattern, no wild colors and no crazy shape to the rug; it’s uncomplicated. This area rug would match virtually any type of furniture, though I do recommend pairing it with off-white furniture. How could you say no to this gorgeous emerald green rug?

7. Rainbow of Color

Here is another abstract rug from Wayfair that is definitely a lot to look, but in a good way of course! This area rug features an array of vivid colors, not unlike a rainbow, that blend together in some areas, while other areas look to be in some sort of melee with each other. I do love the dominate blue and white tones in this rug, and the splashes of neon pink add a pretty awesome effect! Remember in The Princess Diaries, where Mia and her mom throw darts at paint-filled balloons? This area rug reminds me of the aftermath on the wall the balloons were hanging on. It’s a whole mess of stunning color! If you have black furniture, or even light tan, this area rug would fit perfectly with it. This rug is for those of us who enjoy the more outrageous colors in life!
