10 Apps That Will Help You Study And Be More Productive

College life can be hard. Your phone can be seen as a major distraction to all the things you get done, but if used the right way it can become a great tool to help you study.

1. Dictionary

No matter what your major, I am sure you will have to write a paper at one point. The dictionary app is great for those who struggle with vocabulary. If you are doing some reading, it is so much easier to grab your phone to look up a word versus flipping through several pages. The dictionary app also has another useful tool, the Thesaurus. A Thesaurus is a great way to broaden your vocabulary, especially when you are writing a paper, and you are concerned about writing the same words over and over again. You can find all sorts of synonyms to better suit your paper, so goodbye to writing the same phrases over again and again.

2. Google Translate

Google Translate is great for students and people who are looking forward to learning a different language. If you have trouble remembering your vocabulary words or certain phrases, then this app will be great to add to your phone. There is also a feature on the app that will let you take a picture of a sentence and it will translate the words that you highlight. It can also be used to decipher words that are spoken in a different language.

3. Smiling Mind

Focusing is the most important part of studying and remaining productive. You cannot study and do your best when you are mentally and physically tired. Smiling Mind is a guided meditation app. They have specific categories for students as well as people of all ages. College students generally struggle with their mental health, because of all of the immense amount of pressure they are under. They have tons of other programs to offer help with that and to help you relax and unwind for FREE.

4. Quizlet

Quizlet has been one of my personal BFFs since high school. If you have a class that has tons of terminology, someone out there probably already made a Quizlet on it. Just search for the topics, chapter and class and you will probably find tons of flashcards and questions to choose from. You can even narrow it down to your school if you want to get more specific.  If there are not any, then you can always make one yourself and customize who you want to see it.

5. Google Calendar

Have trouble with time management or sticking to plans? Google Calendar should be the next thing you try out. Google Calendar is exactly what it sounds like, a calendar that you mark down all of your important dates on. The great thing about Google is that it is on multiple people’s devices, so if you are watching YouTube videos when you should be studying Google reminders that you previously set will pop up and keep you in check.

6. Khan Academy

Struggling in a math or science class? Khan Academy has a few videos and modules for you to use and practice with. All of the subjects on Khan Academy have been broken down to the specific subset, so you will not have to go through Algebra I if you need help with Calculus. Many people know of Khan Academy, but most of them are unaware that they have a phone app also. It is great, but you can study anyway. If you take a bus to class and you have a test coming up, maybe watch a Khan Academy video to further explain.

7. Wolfram Alpha

Wolfram Alpha is for all the math students who struggle but maybe already know what the answer is, but they do not how to get there. Wolfram Alpha is a great app to meet all your math needs. You just have to take a picture or insert the math problem, and the app will show you different ways that it can be solved. Many people also use PhotoMath which another app just like Wolfram Alpha. PhotoMath is simpler to navigate. These apps could also be used by people who did the work, but they are unsure if the answer that they got is correct.

8.Grammarly

Suck at proofreading your own paper? Guess what? You are no the only one. Jump on the bandwagon and use Grammarly for that. Grammarly is a great app that recognizes certain errors in your writing as you type. This app is great, but it is still not perfect. If you still struggle with proofreading I suggest you use naturalreaders.com. Natural readers allow for you to copy and paste, or upload your work and to have it read to you through the voice of your choice. The website only allows 20 minutes per day, so be mindful of how often you are using it. This website would be great to use after you have completed your entire essay, and you just want to make sure that it is perfect and that you did not make any silly mistakes.

9. Duolingo

Duolingo is another app that is great for people taking up a foreign language or are trying to learn a new language. Duolingo gives you questions and sentences to fill out in order to test your skills in that language. You can also set up a reminder on your phone, so you will receive notifications once a day. The more you use the app, the bigger that prizes you will receive from the app. You can unlock certain levels that will teach you extra things, like romance, idioms, or jokes. You can also use certain prizes to maintain your day streaks.

10. Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is essential to your college life, but not a lot of people know that you can also add Microsoft onto your phone in an app. That way you can view or edit all of your important documents or powerpoints on the go. If your professor uses Microsoft for certain things, you can use this app to help you study as well.

What app do you use to stay productive? Are there any that we missed?  What apps do you use to help you study?
