10 Apps That Are More Addicting Than Instagram

If you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram at all hours of the day, we feel you. But why not take a break and try out some new addicting apps! Whether you’re a social media addict, an intense mobile gamer, or anything in between, here are 10 addicting apps that are way more captivating than Instagram for you to try. Seriously, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

1. Twitter

If you use Twitter, then you know that it is one of the best and most addicting apps out there. While it seems like the use of Twitter has declined, it still remains one of the funniest and most savage social media platforms.

If you’re looking for some reasons to get back into Twitter, let me name a few. First, Twitter is a great way to keep up with the news and pop-culture! Follow celebrities and politicians, and you’ll be woke AF. Second, Twitter memes are SO much better than Instagram memes (you can’t argue with facts).

Third, Twitter is a great space to throw out all of your random thoughts and feelings. While Instagram is polished and curated, Twitter is wild, reckless, and hilarious. And I find it 100% more addicting than Instagram.

2. Snapchat

Ahh, I still remember the good old days when everyone had a flip phone and when you wanted to send pictures of yourself, you would literally send them over text. Snapchat has taken selfie-sharing to the next level, and it has a ton of cool news features and explore articles that will definitely keep you engaged for longer than you’d want.

Not only can you send your friends photos, but you can challenge them in games and send images with facial-distortion filters. I could seriously spend all day going through each of the wacky filters (but I settle on dog-ears because I’m a basic bitch).

The explore page of Snapchat is updated frequently and hosts some captivating articles. Whether you’re in the mood to learn about the latest global news or read the new Cosmo story, Snapchat is definitely one of the most addicting apps ever invented.

3. Tik Tok

Kesha, is that you?

There’s a reason that Tik Tok is all the rage with the younger generation: it is so addicting! On Tik Tok, you can scroll through short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos.

From watching dance groups to short comedy clips, Tik Tok is essentially Vine reimagined (RIP). If you were a fan of Vine in its glory days, then you’ll spend hours on Tik Tok. Bonus points if you can create fabulous lip-sync video (don’t worry, we don’t judge).

4. Poshmark

If you’re a shopping addict like me (shopaholics unite), then you probably already spend hours adding items to your cart online. Poshmark is a mobile marketplace where users can post their new or gently-used clothing, and their followers can purchase or trade items all through the app.

Poshmark is basically mobile thrift shopping. You can browse by brand, size, style, or new arrivals! It is usually a treasure hunt to find the best items, but some of my favorite clothing pieces have come from Poshmark!

Plus, you’re reusing clothing and helping reduce the environmental impact of fast-fashion. And, you’re indulging your shopping addiction at cheaper prices. Seriously, it’s a win-win.

5. Pinterest

I probably don’t need to tell you what Pinterest is. If you like Instagram, then chances are you already have a Pinterest account and know that it is one of the most addicting apps ever created!

Pinterest is similar to Instagram in that it shows you lifestyle content, but you can also use it for so much more. From finding new recipes to seeing outfit ideas to exploring skincare products to getting room decor inspo, Pinterest has it all. And I’m seriously addicted.

6. Tinder

If you don’t love Tinder, you’re lying. Tinder is a dating and hookup app where you can match with other users in your area. You can “swipe right” or “swipe left” and see who is single and ready to mingle!

I, personally, am obsessed with Tinder. There is no shame in swiping through potential partners (or…one night stands) on a daily basis. If you’re on the dating scene and looking to expand your horizons, I definitely recommend that you try Tinder. After just a few swipes, you’ll be hooked.

7. Reddit

I’m not lying when I say that Reddit is one of the best social media apps ever invented. Because Reddit can be so anonymous and niche, people can essentially post and chat about whatever they want.

Reddit’s mission is to democratize the internet, and so far they are doing a good job of it. You can go on Reddit to find memes, follow topics that you’re interested in, hear personal stories and anecdotes, and get advice on various topics. It’s like the Yahoo Answers of our generation, with a whole lot more profanity.

8. StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon is an app that literally stumbles you into various web pages. You start by making a profile and putting in your preference, and then you can randomly browse the web!

For example, if you put in beauty, lifestyle, and travel preferences, StumbleUpon will take you to various blogs and websites that match your criteria. You can also save pages to refer to later, and give each page a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to better suit the algorithm to your liking. Once you try this app, you will be hooked.

9. Yelp

Yelp is my guilty pleasure app. When I need to do anything, especially in a new location, Yelp becomes my new BFF.

Yelp allows you to read and post reviews for different restaurants, products, and services in your area. When I moved to Denver this summer, I used Yelp religiously to navigate the new city and find out where all of the “cool kids” were going. Plus, some of the Yelp reviews are hilarious, so it’s definitely worth scrolling through every once and awhile.

10. GeoGuessr

I just recently discovered GeoGuessr, and I could not be more addicted. GeoGuessr is a game that shows you random Google Earth images, and you have 60 seconds to guess where in the world (literally) you are.

Sometimes, you’ll be placed in a Russian supermarket. Other times, you’ll be in the middle of the Saharan desert. Either way, GeoGuessr is a great game to play against friends and expand your knowledge of world geography. It’s like a field trip without ever leaving your home.
