Amazing Apple Crisp Recipes You’ll Want To Try For Autumn

Even though you can technically eat it year round, apple crisp is one of those foods that just belongs in the autumn season. It might be the crisp apple flavor or the crumbly texture of the sugar and oat topping or the satisfying first bite of a warm dessert, but whichever way you slice it, apple crisp is an autumnal treat that’s perfect for the season. If you want to spice up your baking, try these delicious apple crisp recipes and be prepared to be wowed.

Traditional apple crisp

Apple crisp is a pretty simple dessert to make but it tastes so delicious. To make a dish that serves 6, you need 4 apples (peeled, cored, and sliced), 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 4 tablespoons butter (diced), a pinch of salt, a dash of ground cinnamon, and a dash of ground nutmeg (both spices to taste). Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Put apples in a pie pan or glass dish, and in a separate bowl, combine the sugar, flower, butter, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until it has a crumbly consistency. Layer that mixture on top of the apples and bake for around 45 minutes or until golden-brown. Serve with ice cream if desired. Some people also add oats to the topping mixture that they spread on the apples before baking for added texture.

Maple apple crisp

For extra autumn goodness, try making a maple apple crisp recipe by tossing the apple slices in maple syrup so they’re coated well before covering them with the typical apple crisp topping (flour, oats, sugar, salt, butter). It’s a small addition to the dish but it gives the treat so much more flavor and is even more fall appropriate. Maple is such an autumnal flavor that it pairs perfectly with traditional apple crisp, and combining maple and apple is one of the most peak fall aesthetic events to ever occur.

Caramel apple crisp

If you love the taste of caramel apples but don’t love the messiness, give this recipe a go. Mix your apple slices with caramel and cinnamon, and then top as usual. Once it’s done baking, you could add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle caramel sauce on top for a perfectly sweet and delicious dessert. Sprinkle cinnamon over the concoction for some extra aesthetically pleasing autumnal vibes, take a picture for the ‘gram, and dig in!

Cranberry sauce apple crisp

After Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it), when you’re wondering what to do with the leftover cranberry sauce, grab your mixing bowls and get to baking! Cover your apple slices with a layer of cranberry sauce before adding the traditional apple crisp topping. The cranberries give a tart surprise to the dish, especially if you don’t tell the people eating it that there are cranberries inside!

Apple and pear crisp

For a bit more variety in your apple crisp, try adding some pears to the mix! It’s the same as any other apple crisp recipe but you substitute some of the apples for pears, then proceed as usual. Mixing fruit is a great way to add extra flavors to your recipe, and it’s a fun way to mix up your baking. You could also try adding other fruits like raisins, berries, pomegranate seeds, peaches, plums, or whatever else you want.

Pumpkin spice apple crisp

If you thought that the maple or caramel apple crisp recipes were almost aggressively autumnal, then buckle up and get ready for pumpkin spice apple crisp. That’s right, even one of your favorite fall desserts isn’t safe from the pumpkin spice trend. Add pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie spice to the apple filling, then add cinnamon to the topping and bake until golden brown. That’s it, folks, that’s the most fall dessert that has ever existed.
