While living it up and partying on a tropical beach with a huge group of wasted college students sounds like a blast to some, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea for how they’d like to spend their spring break. And that’s okay! If you’re looking to avoid the typical college spring break destinations this year and focus you’re free time somewhere else, we’ve got you covered. Below are 10 alternative spring break ideas for college students looking to spend those few precious days off wisely.

1) Take A Roadtrip With the Help Of Groupon

Grab a friend (or a few) and research the local getaway deals on Groupon. Often times, Groupon will offer highly discounted hotels in cities around you that you can drive to for an impromptu road trip getaway!

2) Go Hiking

Whether you live in a bustling downtown city or reside in the suburbs, chances are, there are some forests, trails or reservation areas around with trails for hiking. Try out a different one each day and bring a friend!

3) Try A New Hobbie Or Activity

Have you always wanted to try something new but just never have time time for it? (Our Saturdays and Sundays at college are honestly much better spent taking those 4+ hour necessary naps.) Maybe you’ve thought about drawing, painting, knitting or starting a scrapbook? Maybe you’ve always wanted to test your baking skills. Or maybe you’ve always wanted to try rock climbing, skiiing, or salsa dancing? Figure out what you want to do…and try it; now is the time.

4) Organize Your Life (One Day At A Time)

This may not be the most fun idea but it’s definitely one of the most fulfilling spring break ideas for college students. I can guarantee it will leave you feeling refreshed and on top of the world by the end of the week. Each day organize a different sector of your life. For example:

  • Monday: organize and clean out your closet
  • Tuesday: Organize and clean your entire room (move some furniture around, tidy up your space, make your bed)
  • Wednesday: Clean up your social media accounts (unfollow anyone who makes you feel less than, clean out your email inbox, organize your laptop desktop and folders, delete old text messages and apps taking up space on your phone.)
  • Thursday: Perfect your resume and cover letter
  • Friday: Plan out your meals for the following week

5) Volunteer Your Free Time

One of the best spring break ideas for college students is to spend your time helping others. Whether it be serving food at a homeless shelter, spending time with senior citizens (I promise you, they’re more fun than people your age), walking dogs at animal shelters, or helping out at a Salvation Army…all of these are great ways to give back to those around you!
