* Spoiler Alerts* If you haven’t watched the show or read the books, we will be spilling major tea, below. Proceed at your own risk!
Jamie’s genetic makeup includes a heavy dose of loyalty for the people he loves. Often stuck in a dilemma of having to choose where his loyalty lies during a treacherous season of war, Jamie evades breaking promises by always finding common ground. During the gathering at Castle Leoch Jamie was confronted with having to take the oath and pledge his loyalty to his uncle and ruling Laird Colum and risk the war chieftain and Jamie’s other uncle Dougal, who desires to be the next Laird, killing him. If he refuses to take the oath he will be publicly disgracing his other Uncle Colum, which is punishable by death. Jamie outwits them all and doesn’t pledge an oath but promises to obey Colum while he resides on clan land and that is more than enough to satisfy all potential offend parties like any loyal diplomat.
Throughout season 1, we see Claire scheming on how she can get back to the stones, back to her husband frank and escape the harsh reality of 1700 Scotland. Jamie Fraser is so intuned with Claire that he realizes her happiness is more important than his own by demonstrating the most selfless act of love by sacrificing his happiness for the sake of hers. Jamie on his way home to Lallybroach decides to bring Claire back to the stones to give her the chance she’s been wanting to return to Frank. Such valor and altruistic display from Jamie was rewarded in the end as Claire chooses to stay with him. A testament to Jamie’s strength that he is not only physically strong but emotionally as well.
During the battle of Culloden, Jamie’s final act before facing his death on Culloden Moor is to get Claire and their unborn child back to the stones, back to the safety of her world in the 1940s. To her astonishment, Claire is surprised to learn Jamie Fraser has figured out she’s pregnant during this scene in season 2:
Claire: “You can’t know that. It’s much too soon. It-”
Jamie interrupts: ‘Sassenach, you have not been a day late in your courses in all the time since ye first took me to yer bed, but it’s been two months now.
Claire: “You kept track? In the middle of this bloody war, you kept track?”
*Swoons* Jamie Fraser is the kind of guy who will not be afraid to go on a tampon run for you and will never forget to pick up some of your favorite chocolates.
In the first season, it’s revealed that Jamie Fraser took a 1000 lash beating by the psycho Black Jack Randall, that severely scarred his back, to save his sister. If that doesn’t spell out family devotion, I don’t know what else does. Jamie makes it a habit to always come to the aid of his family time and time again. As the Laird of Lallybroch, it is Jamie’s responsibility to take over as the new head of his family, a responsibility he does not take lightly. He even devises a plan in season three to turn himself over to the authority so his family will stop being harassed and be able to collect the reward money too. Even when in jail, Jamie figures out a way to provide for his family who is always on his heart and mind.
Jamie Fraser is a ruggedly handsome outdoorsman. He stands at 6 feet with a beautiful head of luscious red curls and deep-set blue eyes. He is built like a warrior from years of training and fighting in battle. Even with his good lucks and bulging biceps, he doesn’t use it to charm and seduce women. Even while surrounded by womanizers and promiscuous women, Jamie holds on to his V-card up until his wedding day to Claire.
Jamie has a talent for picking up language easily. He is fluent in English, Gaelic, French, and picks up some Chinese after looking after the Chinese exile, Yi Tien Cho. No one can say the word ‘Sassenach’ as smooth and husky- like than Jamie. Which ironically is a derogatory Gaelic word for foreigner or outlander, but later becomes Jamie’s pet name for Claire. An accent is always an attractive trait!
Jamie and Claire’s first fight as a married couple covered in the Reckoning episode was a bit controversial. Jamie has been brought up in a world steeped in tradition while Claire from the future is the epitome of a modern-day feminist. These views clash and viewers alike could not take their eyes off the disaster that unfolds when Jamie decides to punish Claire for her disobedience. He quickly realizes his mistake and finds a way for them both to create a new world of their own even if that means leaving behind some of his Scottish customs for love.
As a Highlander, Jamie Fraser is comfortable with sleeping out in the woods. He has a knack for survival and can endure any climate. He enjoys using his hands to work the fields and to build a house- like it’s no big deal. While living at Castle Leoch, Jamie tends to the stables and the upkeep of the horses.
Jamie and Claire are#goals! What started as a mere marriage arrangement for safety, has blossomed over time to a deep and long-lasting love that crossed both time and space, literally! Even apart for twenty years, to dull the ache of missing Claire, Jamie retreated into himself and became a shell of a man. He could not even look upon the faces of those he took to bed and would prefer to keep his eyes closed and imagine he was with Claire instead. Despite the obstacles thrown their way, Jamie and Claire are two fortunate lovers who continue to find their way back to one and other and serve as prime examples of being better together.
