All The Best & Worst Fashion Choices Of The Past Decade

Now that 2019 is officially behind us, let’s look back at the past decade (09-19) fashion choices, both good and bad, and reflect on the latest and popular trends throughout the years.

There were a lot of wins in trends that have carried over in 2020! There are even more trends that we are glad to have left behind and question our sanity for making such purchases for the sake of fashion.

As we all know with fashion, things tend to come back in trend. So, unfortunately, it might not even be the end of some poor fashion choices we rocked in the past. Let’s just hope we’re not around to see it make its way back into fashion once again

Worst fashion:

Hair feathers

Hair feathers were only acceptable if you were heading to Coachella! Other than that, why would you want to look like a bird on purpose? The same can be said about the colorful yarn phase in the hair too.

Wedge sneakers

Sneakers and wedges alone are great but combined to make one shoe, I think not! I’m glad to see this trend is behind us all.

Snooki pouf

I blame this trend on Jersey shore! At one point many of us tried the Guido inspired hairstyle that Snooki rocked notoriously on the reality show. I don’t know why we thought it looked cute but it didn’t! We were walking around with a hump on our heads and thought it was cool… yikes!

Colored leggings

Just stick to the black leggings. Neon leggings were hard on the eyes. Printed leggings, especially the ones with the cats in space print were just plain weird. Don’t even get me started on the beige or flesh-colored leggings… anytime you would see a woman from afar with them on, you would think she was walking around nude with no shame. No, the shame was just in her poor fashion choices.

Over-plucked eyebrows

So long are the days of over-plucking our eyebrows until they looked barely there. I’m grateful that thick eyebrows are back in style. The more natural-looking the eyebrow the better.

Ugg boots

Uggs are ugly, let’s all agree on that! They make your feet look huge with all that material surrounding it. I get it sometimes it is a matter of comfort over style.

Mustache Print

Why was there such a big obsession with mustaches? There were mustaches on everything like phone cases, tee shirts, belts, caps, you name it. A fad is so weird sometimes.

 Tracksuits

I remember when J.Lo would wear a signature baby phat velvet tracksuit in her music videos and overnight ever girl went out to buy one. The athleisure trend is still popular but it’s either you wear the top or bottom. Never both at once unless you are Kimora Simmons… but even she knows that trend has long died.

No pants look

The only people I know to successfully pull off this look are Hailey Bieber and Ariana Grande, but then again they both have a stylist. The no pants look is one of the terrible fashion choices of the decade.

Ed Hardy phase

Nick Jones is just one of many people who were once obsessed with this gaudy fashion line. In an issue in Vanity Fair in 2017, Nick states, “I think we all had an Ed Hardy phase, where you had the hat, and the tee-shirt and the shoes- and the jeans if you were lucky! Head to toe. Dark times. But we got to go through the fire to come out knowing what to wear without looking insane.” #truth

Croc shoes

I still find it weird that the croc phases hasn’t died out completely. They might be the ugliest shoes to ever exist.

Long champ totes

I remember walking around in Downtown Boston at Quincy market and I didn’t have enough hands to count how many women sported the satin purse in black. Us ladies have tons of essentials we need on a daily basis it makes sense to have a big enough bag to carry it all.

Mom jeans

One of the surprising fashion choices to make a comeback in 2019 are mom jeans. Created in the 80s, mom jeans were the butt of all jokes, pun intended. These jeans were not very flattering. They were high waisted and made your butt look longer and flatter than it otherwise might be. We can trace the return of these baggy pants to retailers like Top Shop, ASOS, and H&M.

White sneakers

White and black are two color combinations that just goes with everything. It’s no surprise that white sneakers are everywhere. Gone are the days of being concerned about staining white shoes and have them looking like one-week-old snow after it’s been plowed.

Statement necklaces

Statement necklaces were a quick and easy way to dress up an outfit. You could be wearing a plain white tee shirt and throw on a decorative statement necklace and instantly look polished and fashionable. These necklaces were also popularly worn with collared shirts to again drawn emphasis to the necklace.

Apple watch

Apple products will continue to boast in sales due to consumers who like to feel tech-savvy and enjoy showing off the latest trend. Having an Apple watch was an instant fashion choice for the last few years and will continue to thrive in the new decade.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses

What better way to show off your money in an effortless cool way than owning a signature pair of classic Ray-Bans in black.

Ombré & Balayage hair

Gone are the chunky looking highlights of the 90s and early 2000s. People like highlights that look nice and well blended. Ombré is a bit more of a style and Balayage is a technique used by stylist and the results are worth it.

Sperry boat shoes

The New England brand Sperry teamed up with Noah and Jack Spade to give this once dull shoe a facelift with color and design.

Looking back in the past decade there were plenty of terrible and good fashion choices that we all have made. Know of some not on this list? Share below.
