12 Alcoholic Hot Chocolate Recipes For A Lit Christmas

Hot chocolate is the perfect sweet treat for the cooler months! You know what makes it warmer? Alcohol! Here are some alcoholic hot chocolate recipes to make this winter and holiday season that will for sure have you feelin boozy.

1. Bailey’s Irish Cream

This is a classic combination and adds a great richness to chocolate. Put three teaspoons of instant hot chocolate mix in a mug and a tablespoon of Baileys, then mix into a paste. Just add boiled water or hot milk to it. Enjoy! The best thing about Baileys is that they have loads of different flavours for you to try, including a vegan option!

2.Kahlua

Love tiramisu? You’ll love adding Kahlua coffee liqueur in your hot chocolate. Make your instant hot chocolate as per instructions, then add as much Kahlua as you like. Add whipped cream for the real taste of your favourite dessert.

3.Frangelico

Who doesn’t love the taste of Nutella? The combination of hazelnut and chocolate is a match made in heaven and you can drink it and get buzzed in the process! Add three to four teaspoons of instant hot chocolate powder to a mug, then a teaspoon of Nutella (or a tablespoon if you’re feeling extra) then add Frangelico hazelnut liqueur. Mix into a paste then add hot water or milk.

4. Amaretto

Usually mixed with cola, amaretto has an amazing warmth to it which can be easily enjoyed in hot chocolate. Add espresso powder to instant hot chocolate powder to add extra depth to the flavour.

5. Peppermint Schnapps

After Eights are made for Christmas! Make this extra dark by adding grated dark chocolate or a teaspoon of cocoa powder to the instant hot chocolate mix along with peppermint schnapps. Alternatively, you can buy dark hot chocolate mix.

6. Mozart

No, not the composer! Mozart is a chocolate liqueur made in Austria and has each kind of chocolate flavours, and then some.  It tastes amazing and tastes like liquid chocolate, so you can put as much as you want into your hot chocolate and you won’t be able to tell. Alcoholic hot chocolic recipes like this are great for people who want a boozy drink, but hate the taste!

7. Spiced rum

Captain Morgan’s is my favourite kind of spiced rum, it has a really nice mix of spices. You can add extra winter spices to the hot chocolate mix, adding nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves (just a pinch of each in one mug), then adding spiced rum after the hot water or milk.

8. Toffee vodka

Vodka can have a pretty bad taste but there’s a brand of vodka called Kin which is doesn’t burn as you drink it. It’s perfect in hot chocolate because it has a great sweetness to it which really compliments hot chocolate. This is one of the best alcoholic hot chocolate recipes!

9.Red wine

This is a nice alternative to mulled wine. Combine red wine, milk chocolate chips, milk, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract in a saucepan and stir over a medium heat until the chocolate has melted. Pour into mugs and serve! Don’t let it boil or you’ll lose the alcohol content from the wine.

10.Rumchata

This is best served with a white hot chocolate. Rumchata is a sweet rum liqueur with cream, cinnamon and vanilla. White hot chocolate is sweet and creamy and adding something also creamy and with a little bit of spice to it with make it extra delicious.

11.Coldbrew Coffee liqueur

For those who love the dark taste of mocha, you will love this alcoholic hot chocolate. Hot chocolate can be quite sweet so if you like things to be more bitter, adding a cold brew coffee liqueur will add a real coffee taste, giving you a proper buzz to see you through to Boxing Day.

12.Coconut rum

This can be combined with any hot chocolate, especially if you love the blue sweets in the Quality Street tin. Coconut is complimented by any kind of chocolate so mix this with any hot chocolate powder. Make it extra coconutty by adding warmed coconut milk to it.
