Going to college can be a very stressful time for some individuals. However, for most people, college will be some of the best years of their lives before the real world begins. Therefore, you may as well get your crazy days over with, go to that party that you did not feel like going to, and drink that alcoholic beverage that you have always been afraid to try, you might like it. With that being said, college parties will exist whether you like to party or not, and there will most likely be alcohol. While in college, it is not about drinking the most expensive alcohol you find, perhaps it’s the exact opposite. Students are broke, and need to find creative ways to make a cheap drink taste a bit better. Always make sure to drink responsibly, while still having a good time with your friends. Listed below are 10 alcoholic beverages that every student will see at a college party.
Known by the infamous name, “the claw,” or the phrase, “Ain’t no laws when you’re drinking claws!” While Claws are a very popular alcohol among college students when they are tired of the beer, or aren’t feeling liquor. White Claw is a smooth hard seltzer, that offers a variety of flavors, such as mango, lime, black cherry, and ruby grapefruit. Although they have a reputation for being a “girls drink,” you are bound to see some frat boys drink it.
Or better known as “Natty Light.” At most college parties, or frat parties, beer will be provided for a small fee or for free. Since it is a cheap beer, it is very popular among college students. If you see Chad from Delta Sig at the party, you probably should expect a Natural Light in his hand.
Lemonade and Tea with alcohol? Count me in. Twisted Teas are very popular among college students, as they are cheap, delicious, and aren’t too sweet. Since Twisted Teas come in bottles, 12 oz. cans, and 24 oz. cans, there are multiple options to choose from. Furthermore, they come in a variety of flavors, such as peach, raspberry, half and half, original, and blueberry. Make sure to take a picture with your Twisted Tea and post a picture on Instagram with the caption #PartyWithTea for a chance to have your photo on the side of a Twisted Tea can!
If you haven’t ever heard of the term, “getting iced,” you probably aren’t too familiar with Smirnoff Ice. “Getting iced,” refers to being handed a original Smirnoff Ice, getting on your knee, while chugging the entirety of the Smirnoff Ice. Although these aren’t the most popular drinks around still, there’s still a handful of people at college parties you will see being “iced.”
Not much is worse than a $6.00 bottle of vodka. However, as a broke college student trying to consume alcohol on a budget, Burnett’s might just be the best and worst decision for you. Giving you the best time of your life at the party following with a terrible hangover the next morning, you will always find your way back to Burnett’s somehow. There are over 20+ flavors, including appealing tropical flavors such as strawberry lemonade, mango, blueberry, coconut, lime, etc. Make sure to keep your eye out at your next college party, because you are sure to come across someone indulging in a bottle of Burnett’s.
Similar to White Claw Hard Seltzer’s, Truly originated around the same time with a different style of flavors, such as lemonade, blueberry acaí, and pomegranate. The competition between White Claw and Truly’s is very well-known, as some people prefer solely drinking White Claws while others might prefer only drinking Truly’s. If you are unfamiliar with Truly’s, be aware at your next college party and you are 90% likely to come across some! Also, Truly just released their own ice cream infused with their hard seltzer that is a must try!
One of the most simple, yet creative alcoholic beverages you can expect to see at a college party is jungle juice. Jungle juice is a basic fruity, very sweet drink, with lots of alcohol, fruit, and a mixture of juices. The most popular jungle juice is created using vodka, Malibu rum, and Blue Curacao. After mixing the three bottles into a large cooler or bucket, you will want to grab a few bottles of orange juice, some lemonade, and lots of sprite! After mixing in all of your liquid beverages, feel free to add whatever else feels appetizing. Some basic ideas are using fruity candy, or mixing in a variety of fruits into your juice. If you haven’t heard of this drink yet, you are sure to see it at a college party, where you might have to pay a small fee depending on the party host.
Wine in a bag. Yes, you read that correctly. Another alcoholic beverage you will be surrounded by at college parties, mostly by females, is Franzia wine bags. You might also hear the term, “slap the bag!” Don’t be fooled, just simply drink from the wine bag and slap the side of it while drinking. The wine bags are about 5 liters and range around $15-$20 for a bag. They come in all of the basic styles of wine, such as cabernet, rosé, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, merlot, and moscato. In reality, these bags are very cheap, since a normal bottle of wine is about 750 milliliters ranging anywhere from $10-$150 depending on the style of the wine. If you plan on getting a wine bag for a party, be sure to grab cups so you don’t have to drink straight out of the bag!
If you haven’t heard of Fireball, consider yourself a lucky individual. College is all about trying new drinks, figuring out what you like and don’t like, and understanding your limits. When it comes to Fireball, a cinnamon-based whiskey, you might be one that either loves it or hates it, no in between. As you can understand, the taste of hot cinnamon and whiskey isn’t for the faint of heart. However, while you are most likely to see college students drinking shots straight out of the bottle of Fireball, don’t be afraid to try a Fireball infused drink!
If you’re in college and haven’t seen a single Four Loko, you might have missed out. These are your own worst enemy the next morning, while also being your wallet’s favorite alcohol to purchase. Four Loko comes in a 24 oz. can, ranging from about $2.00-$4.00 per can with a variety of flavors, such as watermelon, strawberry lemonade, grape, blueberry, and an assortment of others. One of the key facts to remember before drinking a Four Loko is that it is made with 12% alcohol, which in that small of a can, is a lot of alcohol. Don’t be upset if you have yet to try these disastrous beverages, just feel free to thank yourself if you go through college without having a Four Loko.
