10 Adventures You Can Have In Your Own Town
While traveling kindles many adventures, you can also have equally exciting adventures in your own hometown! They key to finding local adventures is: research and stepping away from your normal routine. It doesn’t take much to discover new places and adventures in your own very town. Have fun with these new ideas and never stop exploring the place that you live!
1) Town History Exploration
Unless your town has just popped up out of nowhere, your town is bound to have it’s own unique and fascinating history. This adventure starts with education and research and this is so rewarding in the end! The best place to start is in the town’s archives. If your town has a library or historical center, this is a great starting point. Here is where you can meet people who can tell you more about your town and your town’s history. Another helpful resource is the internet archives! Start digging on the internet to find out more about your towns history. After you’ve done a bit of research, visit the sites in your town that is significant to the history! Reflect on how the culture and land has evolved and changed over time. Becoming educated about the place that you live is also beneficial on becoming a active and influential community member!
2) Bike Rides And Walks
Exploration and adventure by bike is one of the best ways to navigate your town! Are there trails in your town that you have not explored yet? Have you ever walked the roads that you drive on? A great way to explore your town is by slowing down and walking places that you usually just drive past or roads that you are not yet familiar with. Walking and riding in a place completely transforms your view of that space. Notice the beauty with in your town and marvel at it. There are always hidden gems that are noticeable only when you slow down and explore.
3) Local Business Adventure
Spend your day visiting local businesses in your town and get to know the owners. Listen to their stories and create a new friendship. Venture to parts of town that you aren’t familiar with and make those connections. Chances are, people love to share their passions and business with you and you can support their local businesses. Meeting new people is an adventure in itself and you can learn more about how your town works and the people who you live around.
4) Nearest Body Of Water
Find the nearest body of water and go there! Whether it’s a lagoon, ocean, lake, river, or pond, there are fantastic adventures waiting to be had. If you’re looking for the adventure views, then a body of water is great place to start. 10 points if you have a fishing pole too! Fishing is a perfect way to spend your day. 20 points if you have a boat! Boats are so much fun and adventure worthy. 30 points if the water is swimmable. 40 points if your body of water has frozen over and you can ice skate on it!
5) Sunrise / Sunset
If you’re all about the views, then this is a perfect adventure for you! Find a place in your town where you can watch the sun rise or set. A pro-tip from an avid sunrise/sunset viewer is to find the highest point in your town and watch from there! You can set up a picnic blanket and sit and watch. Or you can go on a walk during the time. This is peak views time.
6) Camping
Time for a camping adventure, and your town is a perfect place to start! Sleep in a place other than your home in your own town. It is like you have left to go on vacation, but you are still in your town. This is a great activity to do with your people. If you’re looking for a cheap and fast get-away, then this is definitely an adventure option for you! Make sure you are allowed to be on the land that you camp on. Some parks have rules on camping and it is recommended that you find the nearest camping site. Camping sites are a safe route to go and usually provide you with a fire pit and restrooms!
7) Scavenger Hunt
Now, let’s talk competition. Adventures that involve games are unforgettable! The scavenger hunt game around your town is a fun day activity to do with your people. What you need to do is to have a “game-maker” create a map that leads clues around the town to reach the end. This is like a treasure hunt! You can play in teams or individually. The “game-maker” can make the game as easy or as hard as they want. Get store clerks involved in giving clues. Make the competitors think hard to solve puzzles and clues. This is a fun game to play with kiddos, but also with adults!
8) Amazing Race
This is another town game that is one of the best adventures out there. Like the show “The Amazing Race”, you and your people will be in teams of two and compete to finish obstacles and clues first. This adventure also requires a “game-maker/s” to set up the perfect route, clues, challenges, and race. The best way to do this is to involved different parts of the town to be involved in this adventure. This gets people out and around their town and interacting with a lot of different people.
9) Volunteering
This is a perfect adventure in your town that not only effects you positively, but it effects other people in your town positively. All it takes is a google search to find out where you can go to volunteer in your town. This is one of those adventures that is so special and unforgettable. Search for live music in your local area! Support local artists and enjoy their music. This adventure is best spend with friends!
