Life is hard. Being a girl is hard. Picking an outfit to wear to a University of Iowa tailgate is even harder. If you’re struggling with ideas on what to wear to a tailgate that are both sporty and chic, then look no further. I’ve survived two years of the infamous Iowa tailgates, so I’ve seen good outfit ideas and bad outfit ideas. Fortunately for you, I’m only going to be sharing my top outfit ideas that work. So below are 10 adorable gameday outfits at University of Iowa!
Probably the most common thing you’ll see girls wear to a tailgate, but hey, it works!! This idea is the most customizable too since you can DIY a cropped tee or buy one.
Try this:
This is my personal fave, mostly because I have an excessive amount of Iowa jerseys. But it’s a good go-to outfit that is festive for the occasion and effortlessly cute with a pair of denim shorts and converse.
I’ll admit, these are not the most flattering overalls invented. But you’ll be surprised by how many girls (and guys, too) wear these on Game Day. Pair them with a cute bralette and you’ll be golden.
No, I’m not suggesting you wear your birthday suit and use a SOLO cup as your outfit. What I am suggesting is that you wear a cute shirt that is alcohol related in some way.
If you are going for a simpler look, Iowa face stickers will really tie it together. PRO TIP: wherever you decide to place your sticker, wipe a little bit of makeup off the spot. It is not cute when the edge of the sticker turns orange and pops off your face because of the makeup.
If you’re a girlie-girl, then these skirts are for you. I mostly see them worn with a crop top but it’s such a cute outfit that you literally cannot go wrong by investing in one of these bad boys.
Try this:
Cut it. Tie it. Stretch it. Tie Dye it. It literally does not matter.
Not exactly sure when tying things around our waists came back into style, but I’m digging it. If you ever feel that your outfit is just lacking, tie a plaid shirt around your waist. Not only is is cute, but it also can serve as an extra layer when it gets a little chilly outside.
Forgo a cute t-shirt dress from F21 and just buy your favorite Iowa T-shirt in 2-3 sizes too big. Tie something around your waist so you don’t look like a sack and your good to go. PRO TIP: cut the neck out of the shirt for a cute off-the-shoulder look.
Well, unless you want to look like a life size Grammy Award, then maybe less is more for this one. Ragstock on campus or in the mall always sell metallic gold leggings and circle skirts.
