Denim doesn’t have to be just for country loving teens going to their first Blake Shelton concert. And since the whole Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake debacle, denim outside of jeans has been shamed in fashion ever since. But denim outside of jeans can actually be very fashionable and cute. We can find it in basically every frame of fashion. These looks will be cute, casual and the answer for when you have nothing to wear.
Denim skirts are an essential in every girl’s closet. I don’t know a girl who doesn’t own one, or five. These are a great solution when you want to dress up some without being over the top. They are great in summer with a crop top for outdoor parties when shorts are just too tight and you’re always pulling at them. You’ll love that you won’t sweat as much as you do in shorts. Or wear them in fall with booties and a turtleneck. Denim skirts are great year round transitional pieces, you can dress them up or down and make them work with any season.
Denim jackets are the best casual jacket out there. They can dress up leggings and a tee to give you a semi casual look instead of wearing a sweatshirt which will make your look sloopy. Denim jackets can also be cute with cotton dresses for site seeing in the Spring. They are great to throw on with a midi skirt or satin dress to make your outfit more casual. Denim jackets, like denim skirts are essentials and can be transitioned into any season. Right now fur lined and sherpa lined denim jackets are super on trend and are great to keep you warm without looking like a marshmallow. There are also some really cute embroidered jackets that add just a touch of color and individuality. My denim jacket is ripped and has some pearls sewn in them. It’s the perfect combination of edgy and feminine.
I was very skeptical of denim dresses when they first started coming back in style, but it’s one of my most worn casual dresses. I seriously can’t get enough of denim dresses, they’re so cute and comfortable. They’re versatile for any season and are so much cuter than just a cotton dress. It’s easy to throw on with a pink lip for a cute brunch look. Or style with a long sleeve tee for a layered winter look. If you don’t want a full on denim look, opt for chambray dress, still gives you the denim look without the stiffness.
When I started college this was my most worn item. I had a traditional denim shirt as well as a red one and I wore these on repeat. I would wear these with leggings for class. They were the perfect blend of comfortable and casual for running around campus. I’ve always been one to dress up a bit more so I hated wearing leggings to class, but in college you just need something comfortable and clean and many times my normal jean pants were dirty so to dress up my leggings, I’d wear one of these tops. I’d pair it with booties for a semi casual look that was still comfortable. It was great for running from class to dinner to a late night study session. I could throw on a cardigan if I was cold and wanted to dress it up some. These were my go to and I still find myself looking for these when I need a casual look.
Don’t count out overalls as just a hillbilly staple, overalls come in so many different forms and are seriously so cute. Think Rachel Green in the 90s and you’ll be wearing this on repeat. I have overalls in literally every form that they come in, long pants, shorts and a dress and I regret none of them. Overall shorts are perfect for summer throwing on overtop of a bathing suit for when you are going to a pool party. Overall pants and a sweater in fall are an ideal fall look. My favorite of all of the denim overall looks is the overall dress, and no one can ever tell me that this isn’t cute. Denim overalls should be a staple with your normal jeans, they’re usually looser than jeans, making them more comfortable. They add just a little more flare to an outfit than your normal jeans. Overall denim dress with a turtleneck is my all time favorite look it is peak cute coffee shop look vibes, which is basically the vibe I want forever.
This can go one of two ways, either really well or beyond tacky. Colored denim jeans was a trend in the 2010’s and we all thought we had to have colored denim in every single color that existed, then we’d pair it with a solid colored tee and thought it was the peak of fashion, it was not. Colored denim though can be cute, if you style it right. It doesn’t have to just be green jeans, it could be white jeans or a pink denim top. Styling this in a similar color scheme is key to making this work, instead of just throwing bright colors together, much like we did in the early 2010’s.
Outside of just oddly colored denim, denim with patterns or embroidery can be a nice touch to an outfit. My favorite pants of all time are denim jeans with white pin stripes, I love that these are still causal but add some individuality. Embroidered denim is really in fashion right now as well, having a patch of flowers can add a pop to your outfit, that otherwise my be boring.
