10 Actors Who Should’ve Received A Nomination For The Oscars This Year

The Oscars. Movies’ biggest night of the year. The Drama. Who is nominated and who is not. I’ll be honest with you. I feel like I see a lot of movies.  My husband and I try to catch as many as we can.  There were a lot of movies nominated this year that I have never even heard of and then there were some movies nominated that I didn’t know came out yet. But I think they left a few people out. Snubbed as they call it. Here is my list of 10 people who should’ve received a nomination for the Oscars this year.

Sandra Bullock

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock should have received a nomination for her role in “Bird Box”. Although it is a Netflix produced film, it is available for contention in the Oscars. Bullock’s performance left viewers interested and on the edge of their seats. Just another gem to add to her career.

Saoirse Ronan

Ronan has received multiple Oscar nominations in the past. Last year, she received a nomination for her leading role in Lady Bird. I was not that impressed with Lady Bird as a film; it was very similar to other films of that genre and didn’t really tell a very different story of low-income families dealing with each other while one child goes through puberty. But all the same, I like her performance in Lady Bird. Now put her in a different category with Mary Queen of Scots. Ronan thrived at playing the young and feisty queen whose destiny was doomed mainly because of her gender. She carried on some of the powerhouse that Mary Queen of Scots is known for, all while she got pushed around by the men in her court. If you like History, it is a great insight into how England was affected. My biggest complaint was not in the performances but in the lack of storytelling in the end. Either way, she should’ve received a nomination.

Margot Robbie

Nominated last year for I Tonya, and rightfully so, this year Margot Robbie plays an awkward and uncertain Queen Elizabeth in Mary Queen of Scots. She wasn’t on screen very much at all, but Dame Judi Dench won an Oscar for her 8 minute portrayal of the same Queen Elizabeth in Shakespeare in Love. Robbie was deserving for this role and should’ve received a nomination. The virgin queen is never an easy task to accomplish, especially in a short time on the screen.

Claire Foy

Never mind that I am obsessed with Claire Foy in Netflix’s The Queen. I was so excited to see her play an American wife in First Man. Ryan Gosling plays Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. Claire Foy plays Janet Armstrong, his wife as they struggle through trial and error of life as well as trial and error of science. We get a glimpse of the astronaut’s home life and how the wives looked on their jobs as wife to an astronaut with pride and terrified faces not knowing if their husbands will come back to them. In First Manwe see their grief as they have to pick and up and move their lives to be a part of NASA, but to lose a child to illness very young all at the same time. Claire Foy proved every thought we were all feeling every time Neil went to space or took in the news of a fellow astronaut who sacrificed their life. Every time she held her breathe, we held ours. It’s time this new rising star got some recognition. She should’ve received a nomination.

Emily Blunt

Between The Quiet Place and Mary Poppins, I do think Emily Blunt should’ve received a nomination. The Quiet Place is not my style, but sometimes movies that don’t always hit the mark still have great actors and moments. That birthing scene in the tub is its own nomination right there. I feel like it is a hard task to be nominated and win an Oscar for a musical or comedy. Just because Julie Andrews won for Mary Poppins doesn’t mean she should too. But I think she is just as worthy for the nomination. I have to admit, in the beginning of the movie, I had a hard time feeling like Mary Poppins was really there, but by the end, I was easily convinced that Blunt was Poppins. So where is the nomination for our favorite nanny?

Ryan Gosling

“First Man” Ryan Gosling embodied the legend Neil Armstrong so well that I wanted to fact check every little detail. As a viewer, you hope the actor will do his research on the person he plays. I am not sure why these historical films are getting shut out. I was so mad when Taraji P. Henson was left out of the nominations for Hidden Figures and here we are again, Gosling should’ve received a nomination for a stunning performance on a historical piece.

Clint Eastwood

I mean, come on you guys. It’s Clint Eastwood. He gets better with age. To have such talent on and off the screen as he directs, produces, and stars in the movie The Mule about a man who hits some bumps in the road professionally and personally and ends up taking drastic measures to pay the bills and make amends with his estranged family. He should’ve received a nomination as it is Clint Eastwood at his finest.

John David Washington

Starring in The BlackkKlansman this year, Washington was one who did not receive a nomination this year while his co-star Adam Driver did, as well as director Spike Lee, and the movie is nominated for Best Picture. You want to do the math? How can the director, co-star, and picture itself get recognition but not the main character? The movie follows an African American police officer who finds a way to get involved in the KKK with the help of a Jewish man (Driver) who gets involved and eventually becomes the leader. Washington should’ve received a nomination.

Timothee Chamalet

While Chalamet was recognized last year for Call Me By Your Name, he received no such luck for Beautiful Boy which tells the story of a family’s struggle and reaching out for help with addiction. Probably one of the biggest snubs of the year. I shouldn’t have to be the one to tell you this, but Chamalet should’ve received a nomination.

Chadwick Boseman

I for one thought Black Panther was TOO long of a movie. But I also thought it was an amazing movie! Again, why are action films, even super hero ones, not being recognized as much? This year there is a little more wiggle room, as Black Panther is nominated for Best Picture. However, none of its actors received such recognition. Boseman should’ve received a nomination. It took me a while to realize that same person who is playing Black Panther played Jackie Robinson in 42. It’s called acting. Marvelous acting on both accounts. Where is his nomination? And on that note, where is his nomination for 42? I’m asking for a friend.

Did I miss one? Is there anyone else that you think should’ve received a nomination? Comment below!
