5 More Easy Recipes Involving Spam

It seems that despite the stigma surrounding canned meat, you guys wanted more SPAM recipes. Well, look no further, because I’ve gathered up 5 more easy recipes that make use of the meat. Hope you enjoy them!

1. Spam Frittata.

Our first SPAM recipe is a classic breakfast frittata. I recommend halving the recipe if you’re the only one planning on eating it, because this recipe makes four servings and eggs tend to not be as tasty when they’re all cold. You can probably also swap out the SPAM for another form of meat or veggies if you feel like it. This recipe has lots of room for modification to suit your personal preferences.

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 (7-ounce) can SPAM® Classic, diced
    • 1/2 cup onion, coarsely chopped
    • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, coarsely chopped
    • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
    • 2 medium potatoes, cooked, peeled and cubed
    • 10 pitted ripe olives, chopped
    • 6 large eggs
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Directions:
    • In a 10-inch omelet pan or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and sauté the onion and bell pepper until lightly browned.
    • Stir in the SPAM® Classic, potatoes, and olives; cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes.
    • Loosen food from the bottom of pan.
    • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil and tilt the pan to coat the bottom.
    • In a bowl, mix eggs, water, salt, and black pepper, then pour over the SPAM® brand mixture.
    • Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes or until frittata is set on top. With a pancake turner, loosen the edge and bottom, and invert onto serving platter.

2. SPAM Tacos.

Our second spam recipe gets a little on the spicy side, as it calls for SPAM Jalapeño. If you can’t find this particular breed of SPAM, don’t worry, you can just dice up a regular jalapeño or add some hot sauce to achieve a similar effect.  This recipe serves ten, so you’ll have enough filling for a good few meals. You can also top the tacos with whatever you see fit.

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 (12-ounce) can SPAM® Jalapeño, diced
    • 1/2 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
    • 1/2 cup canned corn, drained
    • 10 yellow corn taco shells, heated
    • Shredded lettuce
    • Diced tomatoes
    • Queso Fresco cheese
    • Salsa, sour cream, and guacamole dip
  • Directions:
    • In large skillet, saute SPAM® Jalapeño until lightly browned.
    • Add black beans and corn and heat until warmed through.
    • Fill warm taco shells with SPAM® mixture.
    • Top tacos with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and cheese.
    • Serve with salsa, sour cream, and guacamole.

3. SPAM Carbonara.

For SPAM Recipe number 3 we have a spin on the classic pasta carbonara. This is also a large-serving recipe, making enough for a whole week’s worth of dinners. SPAM is actually a great alternative to more expensive meats and can substitute the meats normally used in carbonara very well. Honestly, its pretty smart, and most people won’t know the difference unless you tell them. Probably.

    • ½ cup grated Pecorino
    • 1 (12-ounce) can SPAM® Less Sodium, diced
    • Freshly cracked black pepper and salt, to taste
    • Chopped Italian parsley, if desired
  • Directions:
    • Bring 6 quarts of water and salt to boil. Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Reserve ¾ cup pasta water, then drain.
    • In medium bowl, whisk the eggs and cheeses until well combined.
    • Heat large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the SPAM® Less Sodium; cook 3 to 4 minutes, or until crispy and golden. Add spaghetti, stirring and shaking pan to combine.
    • Remove the pan from the heat. Add egg mixture, stirring quickly until the eggs thicken. If the sauce seems too thick, thin it out with the reserved pasta water a bit at a time.
    • Season liberally with freshly cracked black pepper. Divide the pasta into bowls and garnish with parsley, if desired. Serve immediately.

4. California SPAM Fried Rice.

SPAM recipe number four is an easy-to-make spin on fried rice. With easy-to-get ingredients and lots of room for experimentation, you should feel free to try this dish out. You can add or subtract any veggies or other proteins you want, and cooking this up is an absolute snap. The most complicated tool used in this recipe is a wok, so the barrier to entry is pretty low.
