5 Lazy Girl Skincare Tips
In the world of skincare routines, there are so many tips and tricks that are recommended for glowing healthy skin. But there are those who don’t have the time or effort to complete a 13-step skincare routine and all the tools that go along with it. Those are people like me and you: those who have a lazy girl routine. You want clear and healthy skin but don’t want to break your budget by buying expensive products and skincare tools.
My skin doesn’t need to be red carpet ready every day but knowing my skin is clean and healthy is a great way to start and end my day. If you’re the same way, these skincare tips are perfect to incorporate into your own lazy girl skincare routine.
1. Drink Water
While it’s easier said than done for some, simply drinking water is one of the easiest ways to clearer skin as it moisturizes and helps your skin retain its elasticity. Add a cucumber and lemon slice and you’ve got a homemade detox that will cleanse your entire body.
Another benefit of drinking water is the more water your drink the less you crave snacks in between meals. If you’re like me the first things you reach for are salty chips or something sweet. Both can play a factor in breaks out on your face, so drink an extra glass of water and skip the chips for clearer skin.
If you are someone like me who struggles with enlarged and clogged pores, drinking water will also better balance the amount of water on the surface of your skin. Over time this can help reduce your pore size, decrease acne breakouts, and reduce blemishes.
2. Change Your Pillowcase Often
We often forget clear and healthy skin is not always about what products we use or what we put into our body, but what comes into contact with our skin. While it may seem too simple, changing your pillowcase at least once a week is an easy skincare tip that will make a world of difference to your complexion.
Dirt, bacteria, oil, and other particles that can clog your pores can cling to your pillowcase. No matter how much you cleanse and tone your skin, sleeping on a dirty pillowcase will undo all that hard work and the key to a good lazy girl skincare routine is to work smarter not harder.
One way to make this easier is to have an extra pillowcase to swap out while you wash the other one in case you forgot the original one in the wash (like I do a lot). It will also be easier if you stick to switching out your pillowcases on the same day or days every week. The key to clear skin is to create healthy habits and stick with them. Whether its a facial cleanser or changing out your pillowcases.
Extra Tip: If you wear an eyemask to darken the room, make sure you wash that at least once a week too.
3. Double Cleanse
One of the skincare tips that I have learned and incorporated into my own lazy girl daily routine is to double cleanse. This means to first cleanse your face using an oil-based product and then follow up with a water-based product. This will help especially on days where you wear make-up or sweat a lot. This is also something you should do when you wear sunscreen which you should be wearing in some capacity on your face every day.
The purpose of double cleansing is that it’s only one extra step but it will lift a lot more dirt and bacteria off your skin than if you only did one cleanse with a water-based product. I personally use Garnier Micellar Water as my oil-based cleanser and Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser as my water-based product.
But what products you choose whether it be a cleansing oil vs a cleansing balm or using something other than micellar water is all based on your habits, lifestyle, and convenience. The best part is that most double cleansing products can be used on all types of skin types which leaves you with limitless choices. For example a cleansing oil is great because it’s great for removing those difficult to remove waterproof makeup but micellar water is gentler and quicker when trying to remove makeup in a pinch.
Extra Skincare Tips: Drop some micellar water onto a q-tip to remove waterproof mascara. Just be sure not to get any in your eye.
4. Don’t Sleep In Your Makeup
It’s one of the top rules when it comes to wearing makeup, but there are days when you can hardly keep your eyes open and your bed is calling your name. But then you wake up in the morning with raccoon eyes and makeup smeared all over your face. It then becomes even harder to remove all the makeup from your face and clear your pores as the makeup has gotten deep into the layers of your skin. It will now take longer to get all the makeup off the surface layer of your skin as well as unclog your pores.
All could be avoided by taking a few minutes to do a quick double cleanse and some nighttime moisturizer and then heading off to bed. As for someone who spent most of their teens sleeping in their makeup, you will thank me later.
5. Use Combination Products
Any lazy girl’s skincare routine has a lot of single products that do the job of two. Most of them are products that contain SPF. It can be in your primer, foundation, moisturizer, or a plethora of other products.
For example, you can have a moisturizer with SPF in it as opposed to having a moisturizer and a separate sunscreen. For those who are into BB or CC cream with lighter coverage, you can get those with SPF in those as well. This turns two steps into one and still achieves the same goal.
