10 Accessories To Complete Your 90s Aesthetic

The 90s gave us some of the most fashion-forward looks that are still popular today. Here are 10 of the accessories that helped make those looks. These accessories will help you complete your 90s aesthetic. Whether your style is grunge, preppy, flower child, or anywhere in between, these accessories are for everyone.

1. Head Scarf

Head scarves are a popular 90s fashion trend. I cannot put into words the immense joy I felt when these came back in style. I have quite a large collection of head scarves that I’ve been collecting over the years, so it’s nice to finally see head scarves get the appreciation they deserve. Everyone’s been wearing them, so it’s time to dig mine out of dresser. Beyonce, Rhianna, Gwen Stefani, and nearly every celebrity wore bandannas. This 90s fashion trend is making a comeback and it’s better than ever. They’re offered in various colors, patterns, and styles, so you’ll have no problem finding the perfect head scarf to fit your 90s aesthetic.

2. Butterfly Hair Clips

Butterfly hair clips are the perfect accessory to complete your 90s aesthetic. I remember my mom having a big container of these that she would put in my hair in the morning when I was a kid. Butterfly hair clips come in every color, so theres a hair clip for every outfit. No matter what outfit you wear, butterfly hair clips will always give you a 90s look. Butterfly hair clips were a popular 90s accessory that carried on into the early 2000s, giving us the now famous Lizzie Mcguire hairstyle. What used to be seen as a hair accessory for little girls are now a fashion-forward trend for everyone.

3. Narrow Sunglasses

Complete your 90s aesthetic with narrow sunglasses. Narrow sunglasses, also known as Matrix sunglasses, will help you capture that 90s look. Narrow sunglasses are very slim and tiny, just barely covering your eyes. This design allows you to show more of your face and look chic. Cat eye, oval, and rectangle are great designs to get if you want to tryout this trend.

4. Waist Chain Jewelry

In the 90s and early 2000s, the popularity of waist chain jewelry skyrocketed. Stars like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears wore them, usually with low-rise bottoms. Let’s hope that trend never comes back. Luckily you don’t need low-rise bottoms to look good in a waist chain. Waist chains are great for giving your outfit a relaxed, boho look. It’s like a necklace for your hips. Waist chain jewelry is a great way to accessorize your 90s outfit, and they’re so pretty to wear.

5. Bucket Hat

Complete your 90s aesthetic with a bucket hat. Bucket hats are probably the most popular 90s fashion trend worn by Gen Z. It seems that everything from the 90s is making a comeback lately. Everyone has gone bucket hat crazy and I love it. Bucket hats come in so many patterns and colors. Whether it’s denim, fluffy, crochet, or patchwork, there’s a bucket hat to fit your style. Bucket hats are comfortable to wear and super easy to match with casual outfits.

6. Choker Necklace

Your 90s aesthetic wouldn’t be complete without a choker necklace. They can be worn in both formal and informal attire. Most people think of a grunge style when they hear ‘choker necklace’, but this piece of jewelry can fit any style. You can wear pearl, diamond, or even lace chokers. There are so many different styles and a wide variety of colors, so you won’t have a problem finding the right one for you. Remember that choker necklaces shouldn’t actually choke you. Make sure it fits comfortably around your neck and can be moved easily.

7. Resin Rings

Resin rings were the go-to bling in the 90s. They’re the perfect accessory to complete your 90s aesthetic. Resin rings come in every shape, style, and color to fit everyone’s style. While I wasn’t born until 2000, I’ve always loved 90s fashion. I had a hot pink resin ring with rhinestones that I wore everyday in middle school. I like to think I was ahead of my time. Somewhere in my 12-year-old mind, I knew resin rings would make a comeback eventually. And the best thing about resin rings is that they can get wet, so they’re perfect to wear during the summer. You can use them for a 90s ‘hot girl summer’ outfit.

8. Crew Socks

It’s no secret that the late Princess Diana was a fashion icon. She deserves full credit for making crew socks, also known as ‘dad socks’ cool. She’d pair the crew socks with chunky trainers, biker shorts, and a sweatshirt for a comfy athleisure look. This Princess Diana inspired look will help you complete your 90s aesthetic.

9. Platform Shoes

Complete your 90s aesthetic with platform shoes. As someone who hates walking in heels, platforms are a lifesaver. Ever since I discovered the comfort of platform shoes, I can’t get enough of them. My shoes primarily consist of platform sandals and sneakers. They give you the height you want without hurting your feet. No matter the height, walking in platform shoes always feels like walking in flats. Platform shoes are so comfortable you might forget how high they are and accidentally roll your ankle, and I say this from personal experience.

10. Black Sheer Tights

On any 90s TV show, the popular or fashion-forward girls always were black sheer tights. Hilary Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Rachel Green from Friends, and Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell were all fashionistas who rocked black sheer tights in the 90s. These type of tights just make an outfit look better. A simple t-shirt and skirt is cute, but add black sheer tights and suddenly you’re Rachel Green. Rachel didn’t just work at Ralph Lauren for her salesmanship. She had an eye for fashion, so take notes.
