8 Ways To Jazz Up Your College Apartment

Your college apartment is where you make majority of the memories that you will take with you for the rest of your life. So, it makes sense that when you think back on it, you made it the coolest it could’ve been. Creating an atmosphere in your apartment is essential because that’s where you spend the most time and you want to make it a place that your friends are going to want to come to and spend time/make memories there too.

1. Posters

These could be anything. Your favorite artists, random art you found on an account on Instagram or Twitter. Or a really good place to find cool posters is Society6.com. Taking these posters and creating a poster wall in your apartment, is a must because it gives you a place to take pictures in front of and fills up wall space. It is also a way to make your apartment more personal because you and your roommates are taking the time to curate a wall that meshes cohesively that people want to look at. If posters aren’t your style, you could each select some of your favorite photos and place those sporadically around your apartment. Some could be quotes or pictures of your favorite places. As long as there is something different to look at on your walls other than paint, you should be set.

2. String Lights

Hanging lights in your apartment is nice because it gives you an alternative to the ceiling lights. Some apartment lights are super harsh so hanging colored lights or white lights gives you the option to dimmer lighting that doesn’t give you a headache being on for hours on end. These can also be changed out with little cost always keep the vibe in your apartment changing.

3. Area Rugs

Every apartment needs a good rug. Whether its in your living or right when you walk in, it’s nice to have some variety in your apartment. The rug could be a fluffy neutral that’s nice to sink your feet in to while you watch tv, or one that matches the vibe your apartment is going for.  If you don’t want a large one in your living room, then a nice runner in your kitchen or one of those small ones in front of your sink will also do. It adds something new to look at, and you honestly the ground in your apartment gets boring to look at when you see it every day. So, regardless of the one you choose, rugs are a must in all apartments.

4. Lots of Seating

It’s nice being the host because you don’t have to leave your own apartment. Cleaning on the other hand isn’t as nice but if there’s multiple of you to do it, it’s not all that bad. Having guests over can range from a small group to sit around and play drinking games or a full blown party. If you choose to have your closer group of friends over to pregame or maybe have a wine Wednesday with, having extra seating is nice. This could be random stools or storage cubes, folding chairs, or if it comes down to it the desk chair from your room. Whatever you choose, it’s nice to have enough seating so that people are able to be together and pregame or play silly drinking games with.

5. A Nice Speaker

You need to have a speaker. Music is needed when getting ready, having people over, or when you’re doing chores or cooking dinner. Having a speaker can boost the atmosphere of your apartment. If you and your roommates all pitch in $15-$20 you can get yourself a nice speaker that you can either giveaway or sell to someone else when you move out. If you’re lucky, you can find a speaker that even has lights on it to add that extra oomf when you’re hosting.

6. Bar Cart

A bar cart is not a necessity but it’s super nice to have. It’s an organized area where you can keep your shot glasses, drinking games, beer bongs, etc. and not have it look like a mess or have to search for it whenever you want to use it. You can make it cute and match the theme of your apartment easily. A simple way to spice up your bar cart is to get those small napkins that no one really uses but could serve as a disposable coaster.

7. Give Your Apartment A Name

You know how some fraternities and sororities have houses that older members live in and they have some name that it goes by? Do that with your apartment, if you’re not in one of those houses that has a name that’s been passed down for years, get an on campus apartment, name it, and make sure members from your house take over the lease when you move out. It’s fun and memorable creating a name that will make you nostalgic whenever you think about it or hear about it. Especially if it’s your friends from school telling you how much fun they had spending time there with you and your roommates.
