The 13 Best Holiday Songs To Get You In The Christmas Spirit
Christmas is often regarded as the best holiday for many reasons, but I think partially what makes it so great is the fact that it has a whole genre of music dedicated to it. I mean think about it. There aren’t that many Thanksgiving songs around, much less many Halloween songs. There is something about Christmas that makes people feel so good that they are inspired to write songs about it. There are so many holiday songs out there, but I have gathered a list of the 13 must-listen-to songs for this Christmas season. You will find yourself singing, dancing, and smiling at these songs guaranteed! Fill yourself with the Christmas cheer and give these holiday songs a try!
1. Do They Know It’s Christmas Time – Band-Aid
This song will not only raise your Christmas cheer but it will also raise your awareness. This song will make you feel so grateful for the people around you and the resources you have access to. You will surely have your head bopping to the lyrics, “Feed the world. Let them know it’s Christmas time.” Feel good and be pushed to do good through listening to this song!
2. All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
I do not know many people who do not have this song blasting once the clock strikes 12 a.m. on December 1st. This is the Christmas song every friend group will scream at the top of their lungs and attempt to hit the high notes on. The song might say “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” but it is clear that during the holiday season, all we want is to be able to play this song on repeat without any judgment.
3. Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
Of all the holiday songs that will get you dancing, this one might just take the cake. There is a reason that this song is called “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” and it is because this song will have you dancing around your Christmas tree in no time. This song feels so nostalgic, it will be sure to fill your heart with that Christmas cheer that we all look forward to experiencing at the end of every year.
4. Have A Holly Jolly Christmas – Burl Ives
There is a lyric in this song that says, “Have a holly jolly Christmas, it’s the best time of the year. I don’t know if there’ll be snow, but have a cup of cheer.” This song definitely serves just that – a cup of cheer. Burl Ives’s voice just sounds like Christmas and, quite frankly, a Christmas without playing this song at least once just wouldn’t feel right.
5. Rudolf The Red-Nosed Reindeer – Gene Autry
This is a child-hood classic and if you aren’t hearing this song through watching the movie, then you should at least listen to the song. I don’t know about you, but every time I hear this song, I am transported to when I was little, sat in front of the tv, with a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows in my hand. This song reminds me of better times and I am willing to bet it’ll do the same for you. Sure, some holiday songs fill you with cheer, but this one, in particular, will fill you up with child-like holiday cheer that you just have to take advantage of.
6. Mistletoe – Justin Bieber
Holiday songs are typically songs that have come from around the ’50s, but this song from Justin Bieber is a modern Christmas song that will make you feel all lovey-dovey and, well, cheery. This song will make you want to be cuddled up next to your one and only significant other basking in the holiday spirit and enjoying the sound of Justin Bieber’s sweet voice.
7. Santa Tell Me – Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande kills it on every song she creates and performs, and this song is no exception. This song will have you swaying to the music and trying to keep up with Ariana’s singing skills. The holiday spirit is palpable with this holiday song and I would recommend listening to it once or maybe a hundred times this upcoming season.
8. I’ll Be Home For Christmas – Michael Buble
This song is more on the chiller side. You may not be dancing to this one, but you will find yourself being taken and transported into experiencing the holiday mood. This song oozes Christmas and will have you calling your loved ones to make sure that you will be seeing them at Christmas. This song has you missing your family and friends but in the best way possible since you will be missing them so much only because this song will be stirring up so much love and cheer in your heart.
9. Silver And Gold – Burl Ives
Of all the holiday songs, “Silver And Gold,” will make you want to get up and start decorating your home with those silver and gold decorations being mentioned all throughout the song. I reckon that this is the perfect Christmas decorating song for that reason. Make holiday decorating a blast by playing this song and feeling the Christmas cheer swell up inside of you.
10. It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas – Michael Buble
Personally, this is the song that I annoy my friends with most by playing it over and over again in the car every Christmas season. I only do that though because I truly never get tired of this song. Michael Buble’s voice was made for this song and how often does the Christmas season come around? I am going to milk this song for all of the Christmas cheer that it is worth and you should too!
11. The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole
Everyone knows the famous lyrics, “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack frost nipping at your nose, Christmas carols being sung by a choir, and folks dressed up like Eskimos.” This song is truly a Christmas classic that is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit by the time the first lyric is over and has been sung.
12. Santa Baby – Eartha Kitt
This little, flirtatious song is the one that I would count as being the most theatrical of all the holiday songs. I think that is because every time I have ever been around someone that was singing it, they truly get into and don’t just sing it, but perform it. This song clearly transports people somewhere through its music, lyrics, and overall holiday sound. Transport yourself to this mindset of holiday cheer by taking a listen to this song too!

Hello! My name is Sara Bowers and I am a Senior at Azusa Pacific University where I am double majoring in Allied Health and Honors Humanities and minoring in Psychology. As a young girl, I loved to write and English became my favorite subject very quickly. The sciences also intrigued me and I was often told to choose one path, but I did not want to sacrifice either of my passions. It turns out I didn't have to and thanks to the many novels read in my Humanities courses and the writing prompts I tackled alongside them, my love of writing was further affirmed and I grew more confident that I made the correct decision in pursuing both paths. I have a heart for helping people by any means necessary, so if that means helping someone with a physical ailment, informing someone of the best places to eat, or giving tips to calm anxiety, I am all for it. So, there you have it - that's me! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to get to know me a little bit! I hope you stop by and check out more of my articles in the future!
