Cheap College Dorm Room Furniture You’ll Need For Your Small Space
Cheap college dorm room furniture can be hard to find. Lugging it through narrow halls and cramped stairwells is even harder, so we’ve got some ideas that you absolutely must have to make the most out of your space.
Finding these items for cheap is the key point here. Your best bets will be to try Amazon or Facebook marketplace. Amazon will have more options, but Facebook will have the best prices for you.
1. Swivel Chair
If you’re in a dorm, chances are you have a desk, but no chair to speak. The best place to find cheap college dorm room furniture is Facebook marketplace.
That doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort for the price though. The best part about the marketplace is that what you find will be in relatively good condition.
A swivel chair is vital for those late-night cram sessions on endless packages of ramen noodles.
2. Desk Lamp
A desk lamp is essential for a college dorm. I wasn’t a fan of the built-in lamp in mine because it was fluorescent as a prison light.
It really depends on whether you want flexibility or look. Personally, I prefer a sleeker design for a more futuristic feel. It’s a lot less imposing than the built-in lamps that college dorms usually have.
You can find cheap ones on Facebook marketplace like this cool lamp I found. For only $15? You can’t beat that price.
3. Futon/Couch
Ok well, but hear me out first. Your space is cramped enough as it is, but you can easily find a smaller couch that fits two. You shouldn’t be having more than a few people in your dorm anyway.
You need to focus on size, more than comfort. Grab some measuring tape and utilize the space that you’re given to make your dorm comfortable and cozy.
A smaller futon or couch will be easier to maneuver through the dorm halls. Look for a two-seater or one that can be converted into a bed for a friend that’s a had little too much to drink.
4. Chair Bed
If you’re worried that a futon or couch may crowd your space then this is a great alternative. The chair itself is oversized, but it can recline converting into a compact bed.
It’s perfect for those lazy Sunday afternoons where you just want to curl up into a ball and die of pure exhaustion and depression.
5. Clothing Rack
If space allows it, I would recommend using a garment rack for that treat yourself day you took after acing, (or failing) the big test. If I remember correctly, dorms don’t have much closet space if they have a closet at all.
I would have to recommend the BOFENG clothes rack on Amazon, you can hang clothes, store shoes and towels on the rack below.
6. Kitchen Cart
If you’re in a dorm, then there’s likely no kitchen at all. I recommend getting a kitchen cart to pair with your microwave or toaster oven.
Amazon has a cheap set for $50 equipped with multi-storage and a compact rolling frame. It has a hardtop that is suitable for a microwave or toaster oven too.
7. Coffee Table
You need a table to go along with that futon, but you don’t want to compromise any more space than you already have. A nesting table is a great way to go, it’s basically two tables in one.
An added dimension to your already limited room space will go a long way. This set of 2 from Amazon is $62.99.
8. Side Table
If you feel like a coffee table is too old-timey then may I suggest a futuristic option in the Bestier 3-tier side table. It will consume a small amount of space and you can tuck it right beside your futon or your bed as a nightstand.
9. Magnetic Storage Rack
When countertops are no longer an option for storage, you may want to turn to a rack that’s more than capable of holding all of your kitchen utensils.
This particular storage utility is magnetic, which means it’ll fit perfectly on the refrigerator in your dorm room.
As always, you can find the storage rack for under $40 on Amazon.
10. Ameriwood Home Galaxy TV Stand
I absolutely love the design of this tv stand. It’s perfect for the tight space and one of the many pieces of cheap college dorm room furniture that are just under $100.
11. 3-Tier Stackable Shoe Storage
Whether you’re a sneakerhead or obsessed with style, you can never go wrong with a shoe rack. This is perfect for ladies because you can store your flip flops underneath the entire rack.
12. Sandinrayli Side End Table
An essential piece of cheap college dorm room furniture that is the perfect size for your small dorm room. You can place it next to the sofa or your bed for an ideal nightstand.
13. RHF LADDER SHELF
This bookshelf can help a lot by saving space and adding more storage if you need it. It has a vintage look which makes it sturdier than your typical bookshelf, and for a great price too.
You can find it for under $50 on Amazon.
14. Brightech Maxwell Shelf Floor Lamp
This piece of cheap college dorm room furniture is a combination of previous options listed above. This unique combination isn’t exactly suitable for storage, but if you’re organized, I’m sure you can make it work.
It’s optimal to save more space while investing in a lamp that will add more ambiance to your cozy dorm room.
