How To Know If Eyelash Extensions Are Right For You
Eyelash extensions can make you look younger and enhance your natural eye beauty! Trying to decide if eyelash extensions are for you? Keep reading to find out!
What’s Involved
Do you have the time, money, and attention to detail to manage eyelash extensions? They’re not for everyone. Some people are better off with mascara or the daily glue on extensions. Before you indulge in eyelash extensions you must know the pros and cons.
What Are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are not for those with weak eyelashes. The process of the extension is that they are attached directly onto your eyelashes with surgical glue, one lash at a time. This is so that your lashes will grow out naturally and you can then customize your lashes to form around your eyes the way you desire.
Decisions, decisions
The more volume you crave the more you’re going to pay for the eyelash extension. The cost can vary depending on the expertise of your stylist and where you go. Depending on where you choose to get your eyelashes extended they may use mink, horsehair, human hair, or even synthetic hair.
Human hair costs the most out of the different hairs but this way you can avoid an allergic reaction to synthetic hair. Just an FYI Beyoncé wears mink, her lashes are always full and flawless. Mink lashes also cost more than the other materials, they are lighter which means there is less pressure on your eyelids. You should get lashes that fit you.
Time and Money
This process is not a fast in-and-out type of thing. Your initial visit is going to be about 2 hours and your follow up appointments will be about an hour. Now there is also going to be a nice chunk of money being spent in addition to your time. Your first visit will be around $150-$500 and your follow up visit can range $75-$200. Your technician will add about 80-130 of individual lashes to each eye. See, not a fast process. Even though this process can hurt your wallet, the process itself is painless.
Go to a Pro
If you have the eyelash extensions improperly installed this can result in damage to your eyelash. As you try to lengthen your eyelash you will be doing the complete opposite. Not only does improper installation can damage your eyelashes, but so can rubbing your eyes. This can lead to inflammation, infection, or even loss of your real eyelashes. It is best to review your technician and make sure that they are trained and certified in eyelash extensions.
Review before and after pictures and ensure that they are legit. Gluing two eyelashes together instead of one can lead to an issue when one of your lashes is ready naturally fall out. It will pull out the other eyelash before its ready. This can cause even more breakage or your other eyelashes to clump or can cause an infected follicle. While your technician is doing the process if you feel any pain or discomfort, tell them to stop. You may be experiencing an irritation. The phrase, “beauty is pain,” doesn’t apply to this. This can cause permanent damage.
No Makeup
There’s no need for mascara on top of the extended eyelashes. Eyelash extensions are way more dramatic than what mascara can ever do to your eyes. They should be thick and long enough without makeup. Adding on mascara and eyeliner can cause your lashes to clump, and then they would need to be cleaned. This will just start a downhill effect of your eyelash extension.
Why bother with the smearing, flaking, and running of makeup when you don’t have too? Removing the makeup can remove the bondage on the extension and can lead to eyelash shedding or becoming weak. Please don’t use any type of eyelash curler either. The small tool can break them.
Time Frame
You can wear eyelash extension for about 3-4 weeks but that’s if you take proper care of them. With the glue on eyelashes, you can wear them for that day, maximum. Get maintenance on your eyelashes about every 2-3 weeks. Proper care for your extension includes sleeping on your side and on a silk pillow. Touching your eyelashes is also frowned upon because the oil on your fingers can affect the bondage and the additional stress your touch places is not needed. This means, don’t rub or pull on your eyelash extension either, you might take out your eyelashes permanently.
Importance
The first 2 days after getting your eyelash extensions placed is the most important. Try to avoid steam and water. The water can weaken the glue. Throughout the entire time, you have on your lashes avoid oil-based products.
No Scissors
If after your extensions are applied and you feel that they are too long, don’t cut them. Deal with it for the next 6 weeks. Cutting your eyelashes can damage your eyelashes and make them look chopping and unnatural.
Stay Clean
There are products that you can purchase to clean your eyelashes. When using these products make sure you are very gentle. You don’t want to damage your eyelashes or get a refill sooner than you expected.
Perfect Look
The curl on the extension should match the natural curl of your eyelash. Eyelash extensions are not a one-size-fits-all type of thing. Before starting the process make sure your stylist knows what you do in your day to day life and make sure that the style chosen matches your face best.
Proper Care is Key
Eyelash extensions may enhance your beauty but they can also harm your vision, if not properly taken care of.
Try it Out
Saving time in the mornings is another benefit of eyelash extensions. All in all, trying eyelash extension should be fun and on your bucket list if it’s something that interests you!
