Fabulous Music Festivals That Rival Coachella

Often when we think of music festivals Coachella is usually the first to come to mind. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is a bucket-list trip for any music lover. Coachella is a bit on the pricer side for admission with single, general admission pass costing well over $400 for the three-day event. Luckily around the U.S., there are plenty of other music festivals for those who can’t afford Coachella. Here are some great music festivals to check out this year:

Lollapalooza 

4 days, 8 stages, and 170 plus bands make up Lollapalooza. This music festival in Chicago, Illinois sells out annually. An estimated 400,000 people come out to Grant Park to hear performances that include heavy metal, alternative rock, punk rock, hip hop, and electronic music. Lollapalooza is one of the largest and most iconic music festivals in the world and one of the longest-running in the United States. Weekend passes will cost you about $335. 

Hot 97 Summer Jam

This music festival provides a platform for new upcoming artists as well as providing fans the chance to see some of their favorite OG rap stars. One of the most integral music festivals for the development of Hip Hop takes place in New Jersey this year in June.

AFROPUNK Fest Brooklyn

Afropunk is now one of the world’s most famous cultural movements. 60,000 people and more all flock to Brooklyn for art, activism, and music at one of the most popular east coast music festivals in the U.S. The Afropunk festival is an annual festival that includes live music, film, fashion, and art produced by black artists. The festival made its first debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2005.

Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas

Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas is one of the biggest music festivals in the world. This is the flagship event of the global EDM brand. Marking a decade this year since moving to its home at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Electric Daisy Carnival LV features top tier stage production, pyrotechnics, and everything else you can think of to make it the most immersive and memorial experience possible. 

Electric Zoo

Electric Zoo is an annual electronic music festival held over Labor Day weekend in New York City on Randall’s Island. The festival represents all genres of electronic music, bringing top international DJs and live acts from multiple countries to four stages. On average a ticket to Electric Zoo is $225, significantly less than Coachella.

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

Love pop, metal, funk, bluegrass, gospel, or reggae music? Bonnaroo has it all in one place. Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is an annual four-day music festival developed and produced by Superbly Presents and AC Entertainment. It is held at Great Stage Park on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. The festival began with a focus on jam bands and folk-rock; it has diversified in recent years but continues to pay tribute to its roots. 

Burning Man

The Burning Man event is held at Black Rock City in Nevada. It’s been active for 33 years. The summer event is an experiment in community and art, influenced by ten main principles: radical inclusion, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibilities, gifting, decommodification, participation, immediacy, and leave no trace. No money is exchanged at Burning Man, so participants are expected to bring food, supplies, shelter, and anything else they might need. To truly understand Burning Man, you probably just have to go. 

Electric Forest 

This festival is a 4-day, multi-genre event with a focus on electronic and jam band genres, held in Rothbury, Michigan, at the Double JJ Resort. It has grown into a full-on destination fest. At night, the Sherwood Forest comes alive with lights, art, and creativity made by artists and fans. One of the top psychedelic music festivals around.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

Founded in April 1970, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is held in Louisiana’s largest city.
