When you choose to stay single, you choose to put yourself first in order to find out who you are, whether it’s rediscovering yourself or figuring it out for the very first time.

Find Out Who You Really Are

Reasons to stay single vary extremely from person to person, but one of the crucial steps to take before entering a relationship, or a casual fling is to find out who you really are as a person.

Being single for a while allows you to delve into your own emotions and future so that you can find out who you are. What kind of personality you have, what you are looking for in a partner and most importantly, what you expect from yourself as well as your partner. 

Spending time with yourself while remaining single will also strengthen your persona and guide you into independence. No one likes relying on other people to survive, so in order to become your own hero and savior, you need to figure yourself out from scratch. 

Re-evaluate your past choices and decision to find out why you might be unsatisfied with previous partners. Because it’s not always the other person’s fault. Sometimes, the blame falls to you and that’s completely okay.

There’s no rush in trying to figure out who you are. You’re young, full of ambition and you don’t have to rush life, especially not romantic relationships.

Relationships are selfless, but there will be moments where you have to put yourself first and love yourself in order to know your worth. If you haven’t spent time on yourself, taking care of your body and spirit, you will end up hacking at your bruised body even more.

Learning To Be Alone, But Not Lonely Is Detrimental 

Being lonely and then being alone are two completely different things that some people have not grasped yet. 

You have to get used to being alone and making time for yourself above all else. If you can’t be alone, for even an hour, look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself: why is this? There is an issue rooted deep within you that requires solving if you can’t manage to spend some time alone with yourself. 

Being lonely is not the same as being alone. Read a book, spend a whole day with yourself going grocery shopping or thrift shopping for new clothes. Spending time with yourself builds character and independence. At the end of the day, when you’re alone, it’s because you choose to be so.

Sometimes we just need a break from everything around us, which is completely fine. But if you can’t be alone with yourself for a whole day, you can’t allow yourself to be in a relationship with someone else or else everything will become suffocating.

On the other hand, when you’re lonely, it’s more about the people you surround yourself with and whether you keep good company around you. Sometimes it’s even a state of mind. If you ever find yourself feeling lonely in a room full of people, talk to a friend. You always have someone to talk to, even when you feel like you don’t.

One of the best reasons to stay single is actually the lack of restrictions you have. In a relationship, there has to be a mutual communication and understanding where you do not police each other. Of course you have still have fun in a relationship, but there are always going to be limits. 

When you choose to stay single, you make your own rules. Go have fun with random people every night, and it doesn’t even have to involve hooking up with them. Talk to strangers, make some new friends and live your best life by putting yourself out there. 

You might be surprised by how many amazing people you meet. Sometimes being in a relationship doesn’t satisfy everyone, and you might be one of them.

With all the societal norms in place, you have to remember that you don’t have to conform to them. If you don’t want to get married now, or ever, you don’t have to. In the long run, deciding what you want will make you happier than going into something with one eye closed. 

You don’t want to waste your own time or anyone else’s.

If you want to focus solely on your career, then that’s okay too. As long as you’re ready to admit there things to yourself. Because relationships do not need to be rushed. You might wake up one day at 40 years old and realize that you’ve changed your mind. You can settle down then, too.
