5 Fall Appropriate Destinations Around Massachusetts
Even though the summer is over, it doesn’t mean that your traveling spirit has to be. During your free weekends from the office and schoolwork, you should try to find some time to explore new places. The perfect place to embark on these adventures is Massachusetts!
Being one of the most iconic New England states, Massachusetts holds a rich history and beautiful scenery, which is especially at its peak during the fall season. Since I am an MA native you may think I am a little bias. But don’t just take my word for it. Here are five fall-appropriate destinations around Massachusetts you MUST see this season!
1. Salem
The home of the infamous Salem Witch Trials, Salem is the perfect place for your fall travels in Massachusetts. With many tours and museums featuring the unique history of the town, you certainly will not be bored. The area is also quite scenic being right on the water and isn’t too far away from Boston for those that are local. This trip is good throughout the fall, but I would recommend going right around Halloween.
2. Plymouth
Where better to spend this fall than the location where the Pilgrims first made their mark on the American world. In your travels in the town of Plymouth be sure to check out Plymouth Rock Monument of course, which documents the very first spot the Colony made landfall. Also, be sure to visit Plimoth Plantation to get a glimpse into what life would have been like for the Pilgrims. I’d make this trip towards Thanksgiving if I were you for the effect of the scenery.
3. Sheffield
Located in the Berkshires, this beautiful MA town is home to some amazing hiking trails and mountain top views. This is definitely a town that is at its peak in the fall season and is perfect to take a good long hike or just take in the beautiful sights. During your stay in Sheffield be sure to check out the Race Brook Falls, as the raging waters of the river are very pretty in the fall.
Also, you should consider going on a hike on either Mount Everett or Mount Washington. So if you’re the outdoorsy type, Sheffield is the place to go this fall!
4. Newburyport
If you find yourself longing for the beach, but can’t quite bring yourself to make the trip down the Cape, then Newburyport is definitely your fall location. The town is full of beautiful fall foliage, but if you’re missing the sandy coastline, Plum Island gives you a little taste of summer with crisp ocean views. This quaint little town even has a Fall Festival that takes place every October, which features amazing food, live music, and artisan vendors tog et you into that autumn spirit. So what are you waiting for? Take a trip up to the North Shore!
5. Williamstown
Always recognized as one of the most beautiful towns in Massachusetts, this Berkshire town is truly a picture-perfect image of small-town autuwmn. With plenty of mountains, farms, and museums to explore, there’s a little something for everyone in this town. So take a hike on the Taconic Trail State Park or a stroll through the Williams College Art Museum.
Maybe check out Sweet Brook Farm and get in touch with your agricultural side. Either way be sure to make your way through Williamstown at some point this fall!
