Some Good Summer Reads That You Should Get

Good summer reads were only acknowledged when you were assigned reading for the fall beginning of the school year. No one ever took an interest in just reading books over the summer for enjoyment. But for now, hopefully, I can persuade you to do pick up some good summer reads.

1. The Bride Test

This is the story of Khai Diep, he is a man that feels like he is incapable of having feelings for anyone romantically. Though his family tries to convince him that his mental illness of autism doesn’t stop him from feeling, it just causes him to process emotions differently. His mother makes it her mission to set out a find him a wife back in Vietnam.

2. Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors

Dr. Trisha Raje is a renowned neurosurgeon who can’t seem to please her overly strict family. This is a good summer read for those who feel like the black sheep of their family. Dr. Raje wants to get redemption for her parents, so she finds a way when she finds herself crossing paths with a chef named DJ.

3. Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide

This novel holds personal stories, advice, and recommendations that focus on being able to advocate for yourself. Karen and Georgia, have a popular podcast called “My Favorite Murder” where they express themselves using a different medium.

4. I’ll Never Tell

Five siblings have reunited due to unfortunate circumstances, where their parents suddenly died. They have come together to discuss what they will do with the family property, but then they are hit with having to find out what happened to their friend Amanda who has beaten to death in a rowboat 20 years ago.

5. City of Girls

Vivan, a 95- year old woman shares her love story from the 1940s. It is a combination of lust, scandal, fun and it will be hard for you to ever put the book down. Elizebeth Gilbert takes a look back into the past.

6. Searching for Sylvie Lee

Sylvie Lee had gone to the Netherlands to see her sick grandmother and she ended up disappearing.

Her parents, along with her little sister are not understanding what happened. Her little sister, Amy, takes it upon herself to go and retrace her footsteps to only uncover family secrets that turn her world upside down.

7.Magic for Liars

Ivy Gamble is nothing like her estranged sister Tabitha, she has a stable job as a private investigator but lacks some magical gifts that her sister possessed. Their lives intersected when Ivy is hired to solve a murder concerning Tabitha’ s co-worker, making her question Tabitha.

8. On Earth, We’re Briefly Gorgeous

With the same name as his 2014 poem, Ocean Vuong’s book is his debut novel. We walk through the life of Little Dog, a now-late 20-something writing a letter to his mother who cannot read.

9. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune

Natalie Tan returns to her childhood San Franciso home after hearing that her estranged mother passed away. The relationship was rocky because they disagreed about her dreams of being a chef, but a shock comes when she inherits her grandmother’s restaurant.

10. Recursion

Blake Crouch explores a disease in his book called “False Memory Syndrome” which is being investigated. Imagine having memories of moments that have never actually happened.

Blake discovers that a neuroscientist is working a creating something that allows people to recall and remake memories.
