One of the instant classics, this throwback r&b song will get you feeling romantic instantly. Sometimes you hear it and it minds you of that middles school crush you had while other hands it gives you that weak in the knees feeling. You’ve memorized the beat and lyrics now it is time to blare it like it’s nobody’s business. Throw on this throwback when you their love is so sweet it knocks me right off of my feet!

Aaliyah had a way of having those slow songs creep up on you. One in a Million is a necessary throwback r&b song because of its romantic appeal. Her velvet vocals are guaranteed to bring you and your partner closer. Set the mood with a really good feeling all day long.
3. Un-thinkable (I’m Ready) by Alicia Keys
Disclaimer: The fact that I am a huge Chad Michael Murray fan only enhanced this throwback r&b song when the video was released. As always Alicia Keys puts the piano to the test, but it is her “whisper” voice that makes this entire song. There is something so intimate about it and the fact that she was wondering maybe could I make you baby seals the deal immediately. Focus on her voice and the mood will only intensify!
4. Makin’ Good Love by Avant
I mean the song title heavily implies what is to come. This throwback r&b song can be left on repeat because you will want to make good love all night and this song will lead the way. Even the introduction of the song sounding like a lullaby is immediately flipped on its head. If you let Avant lead the way, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
5. I’ll Make Love To You by Boyz II Men
Can you really have a throwback r&b song discussion without Boyz II Men? They are the pinnacle of setting the mood and this song is certainly the standard. With multiple voices and ranges being put to work, you will be in an elevated state of mind. There is something so organic about how this song unfolds and it will definitely set the mood once you close your eyes make a wish & blow out the candlelight.
6. Warm It Up by Craig David
Although Craig David is primarily known for 7 Days or Fill Me In, Warm It Up belongs with the group of throwback r&b songs. The simple instructive quality of the song is what really gives it an edge. This is one of his newer songs and it gets you dancing while also focusing on the lyrics. Once you hear We aint got no time to waste so why don’t we do it right now, you will definitely start to warm it up!
7. Knockin’ da Boots by H-Town
Here is one of those throwback r&b songs that probably went miles over your head when you were younger. A more grown-up boy band feel, Knockin’ da Boots makes it clear what their message is. Consider using this song to set the mood when you want to spend some time listening to some Marvin Gaye all night long.
8. Bed by J. Holiday
Whether you recognize the significance of J. Holiday or not, you must acknowledge this throwback r&b song. He maintains a steady pace while going through all the steps which is sure to set the mood. Wanna put my fingers through your hair will send shivers down your spine every time!
9. Feenin’ by Jodeci
When you are in that state of desire and frustration, this throwback r&b song will definitely hit the mark. I can’t leave you alone you got me feenin’ accompanied by the early use of autotune will get you every time this song plays. We have all been there!
10. All The Things (Your Man Won’t Do) by Joe
An extremely different path than Joe’s I Wanna Know, this throwback r&b song will definitely catch you off-guard. It has an innocent flow in the background, but things heat up rather quickly. I’ll love you from the bottom to the top is an enticing line to say the least!
