6 Coffee Ordering Hacks To Get The Most Bang For Your Buck
Sure, we could all stop buying our $2 dollar coffees out and make our coffee at home instead. However, buying a coffee on the way to work is not a luxury I am ready to give up. I won’t even entertain the idea because, well, it’s the little things in life and I am willing to pay for convenience. Back in the day, I worked at Dunkin’ Donuts (glamorous I know), and in that year-long time frame I picked up a few coffee ordering hacks along the way. Why not try out these coffee ordering hacks that can help you get more caffeine for less?!
1. Order less ice or none at all.
If you are ordering an iced coffee, there is a good chance that the barista will fill your cup fully with ice, and then add coffee/milk/cream. What ends up happening is that the amount of coffee is really only half of the cup, and when the ice starts to melt you are drinking super watered down coffee…yuck! Instead, ask for less ice or no ice at all. If you get no ice, you can add it once you get to the office or back home.
2. Ask for a larger cup.
If you order a small coffee in a medium sized cup, there is a good chance you will end up with a few more ounces of coffee since the barista will be eyeballing it.
3. Bring your own mug.
Since your mug won’t be the same exact size as the cups they sell coffee in, you will likely get more coffee for less. Also, if you buy the cup at the establishment you may get a discount on your coffee since you aren’t using their cups. Plus, you’re helping save the environment so you’re basically a modern day hero.
4. Order your coffee hot.
Hot coffee is almost always cheaper than its iced counterparts. If you do want it iced, you can save it for later and add your own ice. You can also order a free cup of ice on the side. It shouldn’t take that long to cool and you’ll be saving about a dollar each time. Does this defeat the purpose since it isn’t convenient? I don’t know, but if you don’t need to drink the coffee right away then it is a good option.
5. Add your own milk/creamer.
If you add your own milk and creamer then you will by default be getting more coffee because it will take more to fill the cup. Simple math.
6. Download apps and collect punch cards.
Many times companies like to reward their customers by giving them discounts/coupons through either apps or punch cards. Definitely download the apps if you frequent specific coffee shops, and if you can hold onto punch cards (I, somehow, always seem to lose them) then grab one and put it in your wallet. It does add up.
