With Mother’s Day just around the corner, some of us may find ourselves struggling last minute to come up with a gift that won’t scream “I just ran to the drugstore and bought you this last night.” Hopefully that’s not the case, but if it is, there are some great last minute DIY mother’s day gifts ideas out there, and if you’re hard on cash right now, they also happen to be homemade. Pedicure In A Jar
What mother doesn’t love pampering herself with a relaxing pedicure? This is a super easy homemade mothers day gift and you probably already have most of the items you need. Start by grabbing a mason jar, you can go with a plain clear one or pick up a cheap cute colorful one at any craft store. Fill the jar with your basic pedicure tools, a pumice block, nail clippers, toe separators and a nail polish. Make sure to include a base and top coat. Finally add some cotton rounds and that takes care of the inside.
If you want to go the extra mile, you can create some cute labels to personalize the gift and add some ribbon to polish it off. (Pun intended.)
Kilim Inspired Painted Basket
If your mom is into anything colorful, these Kilim inspired baskets will be perfect for her home decor. You can customize the colors to match any color palette in her home. Before you get started, make sure you have washed and dried your mug. Next, draw your design or text on the mug. Depending on the pen you use, you will have to let your paint cure for so many hours. Homemade Marbled Drink Coasters
You’ll need a few more supplies for this particular craft, but it’s still a great last minute homemade mother’s day gift. For this one, you’ll want nail polish, a disposable container, tepid water, tiles, scrap paper, wooden sticks, disposable gloves and nail polish remover. I would recommend doing this project either outdoors or in a place where you can put down lots of newspaper as it can get messy.
Start by filling your disposable container with a couple of inches of tepid water. Then drop your nail polish in. You can use as many colors as you want, but if you have some lighter shades start with those so they are in the container first. Try not to take too much time with this step as you want the colors to remain at the surface of the water. (Tip: hold the bottle close to the water while dripping it in so it doesn’t sink to the bottom with the force of the drop.) Next you’ll take your wooden skewer (or toothpick) and drag it along the surface of the water to create a pattern of swirls. Again, keep the toothpick on the surface of the water to avoid causing the polish to sink and clump up.
Now for the fun part. Take your tiles and decide if you want to cover the partially or completely. If you want to cover them completely you will want to dip the tile in as flatly as possible to avoid air bubbles. Otherwise you can just dip in corners of the tiles. After you dip the tiles, lay them flat to air dry for a few hours. After they are completely dry you will want to spray them with a sealant to protect the color and make them heat safe. Finally, you will want to fix small felt pads to the bottom corners to protect any table surfaces they sit on.
This is a very unique last minute DIY mother’s day gift that is sure to impress.

Does your mother have a prized vintage tea cup collection? If so, I wouldn’t recommend using them for this project, but she is sure to love it all the same.
All you’ll need is a tea cup, or two, a tea bag tag, hot glue gun, candle wax and wick and a stock pot.
First you’ll want to bring some water to boil in the stock pot. While you wait for the water to boil, grab the wick and the tea cup and glue one end of the wick to the bottom of the cup so that it’s sticking up. To melt the wax, you’ll put it in the double boiler and place it in the stock pot with the boiling water. This is when you would add a scent to the candle if you wanted. After the wax is melted, pour it into the tea cup around the wick. Make sure to leave enough room around the top of the wick to light it.

This homemade mother’s day gift will look like it came from the store. It’s perfect for the minimalist mom in your life. This is similar to the customized mug, so you could even make an entire dinnerware set!
What you’ll need is white dinnerware, sharpie markers (or ceramic/glass paint markers), glass cleaner and a lint free cloth and an oven. Like the mug, you’ll want to make sure you have cleaned and dried each piece before drawing on them. You can choose to go free hand if you’re a skilled artist, or you can use a template. Once the pieces are completed, let them dry and then bake them in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Temperature and time may vary depending on the type of paint/markers used.
Chunky Blanket
Your mom will love curling up on a cold rainy day with this homemade mother’s day gift. To make this super cozy chunky blanket you’ll need chunky yarn and a size Q crotchet hook. You can make the blanket any size you want, but the bigger the better! To get one that’s 56 in x 85 in you’ll want to start with a chain of 86. Single crotchet in second chain from the hook, single crotchet across, chain one and repeat.
This one may take a few days depending on how fast you crotchet. I would only attempt this one if you’re fairly skilled with a crotchet hook. Knit goods tend to make great last minute DIY mother’s day gifts.
Patterned Notebook
Have a mother that’s a lover of words? Gift her a homemade patterned notebook to jot her thoughts down in. She’ll think of you every time she uses this creative mother’s day gift.
You can use any notebook, but for this particular one moleskin notebooks were used. Grab some origami paper (size 8.5 in x 11 in or bigger), mod podge, a sponge or paint brush, scissors and a pencil.
Lay the notebook down flat on top of the origami paper and trace the outline with a sharp pencil. Cut the outline out and spread mod podge over the whole piece, edges are very important as you don’t want them peeling up. Line up the origami paper with the notebook cover and stick it on. Use your hands to smooth the paper out and get rid of any creases. Trim any imperfections around the edges with a pair of scissors, and boom your done. Probably one of the easiest last minute DIY mother’s day gifts.
Dip-Dye Ombre Bag
With the recent ban on plastic bags that seems to be happening in every major city and now small towns, these bags would make the perfect reusable grocery bag. Great last minute DIY mother’s day gifts that are also environmentally friendly? Count me in!
For this, you’ll need a canvas bag, Rit dye the color of your choosing, a clean bucket salt, a metal spoon, hot water and gloves. Beware, Rit dye is very powerful and can be very messy. Pour the liquid Rit dye into the bucket with hot water until you get a shade you like. Decide how much of the bag you want colored and dip it in the bucket to your desired length. About every two minutes, move the bag up out of the dye so that the potency of color increases as you reach the bottom of the bag. This will help achieve that ombre look. After you’ve removed the bag completely, make sure you can safely bring it to a sink to rinse the excess dye out with cool water. You don’t want this dye to drip anywhere unless you want it there. Forever. If you want the top of the bag to remain uncolored, rinse from the top down. Once that’s done, wash the bag in the washing machine (by itself) in warm water with detergent. You can either let it air dry or dry it in the machine.

What you’ll need is Epsom salt, Dawn Ultra dish soap, a jar, something to stir with and some small sample spoons. Start by filling the jar with 2/3 epsom salt and top it off with the dish soap.
