What I Wish I Knew My Freshman Year Of College

Every upperclassmen wishes they could re-do their freshman year of college. Read this article so you are prepared to make the most out of your first year at school.

As a current sophomore at the University of Arkansas, man oh man, I have plenty I wish I knew my freshman year of college.

You are finally here, the moment you have been waiting for your whole life. College. Countless movies have been made about it, and you are finally able to experience it. This wonderful and beautiful time in your life is about you, your education and your relationships. Make the most of it.

1. You do not need that many clothes.

Like, no way. Leave them at home and I promise, your little sister will steal them all but let her.

2. Your dorm is your happy place.

Decorate it so you feel at home. Remember to be sweet with everyone on your floor. Introduce yourself to your neighbors your freshman year of college.

3. Dress for success.

I know it will be more comfortable to roll out of bed and rush to class, but believe me “dress well, test well” is a real thing.

4. The freshman fifteen is real.

Enjoy life and that pizza but know that your campus has a free gym and free workout classes. Bring on the Zumba! Everything in moderation.

5. Go to class and office hours.

For some students, this is your only job. Go to class and engage. Go to office hours and now your professor has a face to a name. It helps.

6. Find your girl gang.

These girls are not only the ones you can go out to frat houses with, but they will come over for movie nights. They’re the ones that pick you up to get pizza and ice cream at 2 a.m. and then cry with you when Chad from Sigma Apple Pie breaks your heart.

7. Don’t let Chad from Sigma Apple Pie break your heart.

Baby, you are a treasure and they are just silly boys who want nothing more than to party. Your guy will come soon. Focus on you.

8. Your first night out on the town, please don’t go crazy.

You may be used to hanging out in your small town, but you’re playing with the big dogs now. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

9. Never leave your buds at a party.

Us girls need to stick together. While it may put a damper on your night, please don’t leave them alone.

10. While college is the most exciting time in your life, it’s okay to feel lonely.

For most, this is the first time being away from home and having absolute freedom. Have fun but think through your decisions freshman year of college.

11. It’s okay to be alone.

Enjoy it. Pick up a hobby. Your campus has so much going on. Try a sport you never have done before. Go to a painting class. You never know until you try it.

12. Enjoy your freshman year.

It will go by so quickly and you will never be a freshman baby again. Enjoy the ups and downs, the highs and lows. You’re so special and don’t let anyone or anything tell you differently.
