10 Makeup Items Every College Freshman Needs
A college freshman’s makeup bag should be filled with multi-purpose, inexpensive products that are trusted and functional. Whether you’re headed to the library or to a night out on the town, you’re going to want your makeup to look great, last for hours, and keep your skin clear and healthy! The below list of products are some essential makeup items every college freshman needs!
1. e.l.f. Blemish Control Primer
A good face of makeup should always start with two things- excellent skin care and a good primer. Luckily, this e.l.f. primer does both! It’s infused with tea tree oil and witch hazel, so you’ll never feel guilty for skipping out on your skin care when you’re running late for class. It does an excellent job of making your foundation and concealer stay put and look great throughout the day!
2. Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer
After long, sleepless nights, spent studying for tests and finals, a concealer quickly becomes your best friend. This one by Maybelline provides an excellent amount of coverage (whether you’re looking to cover dark circles or acne) without drying out your skin. It is perfect for all skin types and is very inexpensive!
3. Wet N Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette
Available in two shades, this highlighting and counter palette is perfect for those of us who have little to no storage space. Instead of a large six-pan palette, this convenient set has both a powder for setting under your eyes and a beautiful contour/bronzing shade. Bonus! Both shades can also be used for a quick eyeshadow look!
4. Colourpop Eyeshadows
These ultra-pigmented and creamy shadows blend out like a dream and are extremely easy to work with. From soft and blended looks to dark smokey eyes, these shadows can do it all. Colourpop houses two shadow formulas- Super Shock Shadows and Pressed Shadows. The Super Shock Shadows are perfect for ultra-glittery looks, while the pressed shadows provide excellent crease and blending shadows.
5. Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips
With every shade under the sun, and a formula that can’t be beat, these lippies are essential to any makeup collection! They’re inexpensive and last for hours, even through eating and drinking. They reapply beautifully, so you’ll never have to deal with that crumbly lipstick situation. You’ll never have to worry about them during class or while you’re running around campus!
6. e.l.f. Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls
This super affordable highlighter from e.l.f. is essential for any college freshman’s makeup arsenal. It provides the perfect amount of glow and is available in two shades. To make the highlight more intense, scrape off the top layer of the product- some complain that there is no pigmentation (but this trick should fix this). Also, you can wet your highlighting brush to get a mega-glowy effect.
7. Mario Badescu Facial Spray
These multi-purpose sprays are perfect for any freshman. They provide a boost of hydration alone, under, or over makeup. I love to use them to wet my brushes for eyeshadow or highlighter. These provide the quickest form of skincare- just spray and go!
8. L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara
Shh- don’t tell anyone- but L’Oreal has created a knockout dupe for the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. I swear by that mascara, but its price point ($20) is a huge turn-off. When I came across this mascara and tried it out, I was so excited! It is extremely similar to the aforementioned Too Faced mascara, but at a fraction of the price!
9. Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara
At such a low price point ($2.99), you can’t go wrong with this brow gel. Don’t let its size fool you- this product packs a punch! The tiny brush allows you to expertly place every brow hair, while depositing the perfect amount of pigment to the brow. Sometimes, I even like to take a small angled brush, pick up the product, and fill in my brows that way. The color is buildable and helps your brows stay in place all day!
10. e.l.f Makeup Brushes
With each brush priced around $6.00, e.l.f. has created the most affordable brushes that work beautifully. Their selfie-ready foundation brush expertly blends out foundation, and lasts way longer than a beauty sponge. The small tapered brush is a double threat; it smooths out powder counter, and applies highlighter like a dream. Many of their brushes are multi-usable, so you can really get the most out of your makeup!
