7 Reasons I’m Excited To Start At FSU
I want to start of by saying that Florida State University is everything I’ve ever dreamed of in a college. The moment I stepped foot on the campus, I knew that FSU was where I would end up. I’m sure I’ll have my fair share of embarrassing moments and unpleasant experiences, but going off to college is something that I’ve been looking forward to for years; and I could not be more excited. SEC football, super active Greek life, amazing academics, and wonderful people…what more could a girl want? So there are a million and one reasons why I’m excited to attend Florida State, but I’ll just break it down into the top 7.
1. Beautiful Campus & Amazing Location
I toured FSU at the beginning of the fall of 2016. Before my tour started, I stepped onto Landis Green and was in love. It was a gorgeous sunny day; people were throwing frisbees and laying in the grass, studying…and I loved it. Everyone was radiating happiness and it made me feel at home. I then walked to the visitor center, and on my way I was amazed by the beauty of the stadium (but I’ll get to that later). As we toured I came to the realization that FSU isn’t just a school, it’s also a home. Even though dorms aren’t typically glamorous, Florida State does have some fairly spacious and updated ones!
2. Location
A huge reason why I’m excited to attend Florida State is the location. It’s set in the capital of Florida, which is amazing for a few reasons. First, it’s close to home, but not too close. I live about three hours from the campus, which means that I can visit family, but not be driven crazy by them. Also since it’s the capital, I think it will be a wonderful place to find an internship, try out cool restaurants, and go to fun events. It’s a beautiful city that isn’t too big, and I’m certainly looking forward to that.
3. Greek Life
So I’m well aware that Greek life isn’t for everyone, but I’ve always known that it was for me. With that said, FSU has a really active Greek program, and I’m beyond excited to get involved. None of my immediate family members have been involved in Greek life, but I’ve had a number of close friends who’ve been involved, and I’ve seen the wonderful impact that it has had on their lives. It’s going to be so amazing to find a group of girls that I can truly connect with and form life-long friendships with. I’m truly passionate about volunteer work and am looking forward to being able to participate in philanthropy events and to help the community.
4. Football Games!!!
I’m a huge fan of having a sense of community at my future college. At FSU, nothing brings people closer together than football. Though some people don’t feel compelled to attend a school with strong athletics, it is certainly something that I like. Being able to pile into that stadium and cheer on a team is going to be such a wonderful feeling. The adrenaline every time they get close to a touchdown; the sense of pride after winning a game; being able to beat that team (that shall not be named)… nothing can compare to that.
5. Amazing Academics
I am majoring in neuroscience and want to go on a pre-med track (wish me luck), so academics are really important to me. To get into medical school you have to have attended a good school for undergrad, and I truly believe in Florida State and their ability to be that for me. They are one of the best public institutions in the country and are getting better and better every year. I’ve always thought that you should attend a school that is constantly making efforts to improve, because it shows that they care about the futures of their students. I have had the opportunity to meet a few different professors in the science departments and was blown away by their knowledge and kindness.
6. Research Opportunities
I did a science fair in high school, and ended up being a finalist at state (nerdy, I know). But that allowed me to discover another passion of mine, and that’s research. I love learning more about topics, and being able to get a little messy in the process. One of the things that blew me away about Florida State is their emphasis on research. They really encourage their students to get involved in research, even at the undergrad level! From grants to connecting students with faculty…they do as much as they can. I’m excited to get involved in their research program, and maybe even do some of that research abroad.
7. Incredible People
Florida State has a reputation of having a really attractive student body (hello cute boys). With that said, I cannot believe how nice everyone is too! I’m sure I won’t like everyone (because well… in life that’s not possible), but I’ve been so impressed with everyone thus far. Going back to that first experience touring the campus, I was holding a map and within seconds, people were asking me if I needed help. It’s so amazing to see people so connected with the school and each other. I’m also in a few group chats and on the FSU 2021 Facebook page, and it’s been really cool to talk to everyone and learn about what they’re interested in.
As a whole, as cliche as this sounds, I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my life. It is going to be so cool to meet so many new people, and learn more about myself. I am really glad that I’ve chosen to attend Florida State University and am excited for the years to come.
These are my top 7 reasons why I’m excited to start at FSU, but what are you excited for? Share in the comments!
