15 Cheap And Fun Date Ideas Around FIT

Are you looking for cheap and fun date ideas around FIT? Don’t worry, there are plenty of options around campus! From a classic date at The Met, to a walk through Central Park, these date ideas around FIT don’t involve a lot of money, and you’ll have a great time!

1. Chelsea Piers

Head over to the piers on a nice day and take a walk and enjoy the scenic views, sit down and people watch or pack a meal and sit in a grassed area for a picnic and lounge!

2. The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Going to the MET is a perfect date when trying to escape the weather outside.  The MET is donation based entry for the museum.  Walk through Central Park to go to the museum and stroll around four floors of art and history with your boyfriend/girlfriend!

3. Joey’s Pizza

Looking for a cheap dinner date? Head down to West 4th street to Joey’s Pizza.  Joey’s Pizza is a famous pizza shop in the village, on the walls of the pizza shop you see photos of celebrity’s like Selena Gomez, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Matt Damon.  Joey’s Pizza is also the pizza shop that Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) AKA Spiderman delivered pizzas in the movie!

4. The High Line

Find a bench at the highline and enjoy the weather and people watching during every season in NYC.  The High Line is a restored train tracks that is now a walking path.  At the 21st entrance of the High Line there is a large seating area and grass area to hang out.

5. Gotham Comedy Club

Right on 23rd street is a famous comedy club in Chelsea with up-and-coming comedians.  The tickets are $20 per person for two hours of laughter.  Amy Schumer, Andrew Schulz and Bill Burr started here in this club!

 

6. Garment District

Being a FIT student you obviously have a passion for fashion. Take your boyfriend/girlfriend to the garment district like 38th street.  Browse around the trimming and fabric shops and share your passion with your significant other!

7. Loeb Boathouse

In Central Park you can rent a row boat for $15 an hour, watch your significant other row a boat, relax and enjoy the view and company!  This is a perfect time for pictures!

8. Strawberry Fields

On the 86th street entrance of Central Park is John Lennon’s memorial that holds the iconic black and white tile mosaic spelling out imagine.  You can often find John Lennon lover playing his music are the imagine mosaic.

9. Visit A Castle

Go the the Belvedere Castle in Central Park and enjoy the views on the park and NYC skyline.  This is a perfect opportunity to take pictures!

10. Visit A Home Alone 2 Scene

In Home Alone 2 there is an iconic scene of Kevin McCallister running from the Sticky Bandits under the Bethesda Terrace.  The Bethesda Terrace is beautiful and often has a barbershop quartet playing within that you can stop and admire.

11. FIT Museum

Hit the FIT museum!  FITs museum changes there exhibits every 6 to 8 months.  In the past they have had exhibits on the evolution of denim, and Uniformity on past work and sport uniforms from different times of history.

12. 9/11 Memorial

Head down to the Financial District and walk through the 9/11 memorial walking around the pools and reading some of the names on the memorial.  This is a national memorial that everyone should visit at some point.  So if your boyfriend/girlfriend is out of town this is a breath taking memorial showing how strong and loved our country is.

13. Black Tap Milkshakes

If your girlfriend/boyfriend or you are ice cream or milkshake lovers you have to go to Black Tap.  These milkshakes are unbelievable. Flavors like Cotton Candy, Sweet and Salty and Cookie milkshakes.

14. Ride the Staten Island Ferry for a View of the Statue of Liberty

Take the free 30-minute ferry ride to Staten Island to get a view of the Statue of Liberty!

15. Times Square

Walk through Times Square and admire the lights, shop a little, grab a coffee, see some  characters and lots of people watching!
