9 UA Perks Every Freshman Should Know About

Freshman year of college can often be viewed as one of the more stressful years of college because you are setting the foundation for your future. Also, it can be hard to get people to take you seriously as a But, believe it or not, there are some advantages Freshman hold over upperclassmen at the University of Alabama. So, here are 9 UA perks freshman have!

1. HBO GO is free!

Yes, for FREE, you get to be subscribed to HBO GO as a freshman and watch all of your favorite TV shows and movies without paying a single dime. Unfortunately, I did not learn this until the end of the year, so learn from my mistake and sign in as soon as you move into your dorm! When you go to HBO GO, just click on ‘sign in’ in the top right corner and then select your provider as the “University of Alabama” where it will ask you to sign into your “mybama” and you’re all set!

2. Free download of Microsoft Office.

As a student at UA, you get to download Microsoft Office for Mac including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel just because you attend the University!! (Projects just became a hell of a lot easier). Keep these free UA perks coming, am I right?

3. Domino’s will take your CWID!

Another thing I unfortunately learned too late is that Domino’s Pizza will take your CWID if you order delivery. So, if you’re studying at the library until 2 am and realize you’ll pass out if you don’t order a pizza or if you just got back from a frat house and have the same feelings, dining dollars will save your life. Just place your order on Domino’s website and at the end, click cash as your payment plan and in special notes, write that you want to pay with dining dollars and enter your CWID, and that is literally it! Life changing, seriously.

4. The Aquatic Center.

If your day isn’t complete without your workout, but you still find yourself lazy and not wanting to walk all the way to the rec, the aquatic center is your perfect bet. Located across the Regions Bank and Mary Burke East (the dorm residence hall) is a compact gym with everything you could possibly need. Located quite close to tutwiler, it is in a prime location and one of the best UA perks. It does however close at 9 pm which sucks for those like me who don’t make it to the gym until 10 but it is a motivator to get your workout out of the way early!

5. Chick-Fil-A in Lloyd.

Chick-Fil-A (aka everyone’s favorite fast food restaurant) does have a location in the Ferg, but when it’s pouring which is literally every other day in Tuscaloosa…no one wants to have to walk all the way to the Ferg just for chicken fingers..so luckily, you can just go to Lloyd Hall! Located right across the quad, Lloyd has a Chick-Fil-A to the left as soon as you walk in, as well as other food places which becomes so convenient if you have classes in that hall!

6. Secret Starbucks!

Starbucks, every basic girl’s favorite coffee shop, but again, why walk all the way to the Ferg when you can just go to the hidden one behind Bidgood Hall (next to Subway)! It’s the perfect alternative for all those who just can’t start their day without coffee, but also can’t wake up early enough to get some…

7. Boar’s Head.

Boar’s Head Sandwiches which, in my opinion, are some of the best sandwiches you could ever have, are located in Tutwiler and Lloyd Hall. There is an iPad screen set up in front of the order line where you select and pre-make your sandwich virtually with the bread of your choice, toppings of your choice and anything else you could want on a sandwich. I could literally eat Boar’s Head every day, three times a day if I needed to, and yes they do take dining dollars!!

8. Dining Dollars.

Everyone’s favorite, dining dollars. $325 dollars that get restocked every semester and that first week you almost feel like you’re not that broke of a college student…(it runs out fast). I literally spent my dining dollars in a month and all on food and unnecessary late night snacks. Many more places than you would think take dining dollars, like Buffalo Phil’s on the strip, Cane’s in Paty Hall, the Ferguson center food court, the dorm food markets, and a few others! If you do however run out of dining dollars though, you can just restock money as Bama Cash on your card which is actually accepted by many more places!! Dining Dollars are seriously life though!

9. Just being a freshman in general.

The last of the UA perks! This one is pretty self explanatory, but being a freshman is the biggest perk you could ever have. Everything is brand new to you, you’re finally living on your own, and you get to live the craziest year of your life ONCE so do not take it for granted because ask anyone and all they want is to be a freshman in college again…roll tide.
